I have a 79 308 gtb with an alpine cassette piece of junk installed. I want to install a brand new stereo , but can't figure out how to remove the old one. Anyone have pictures to show how to remove panel that stereo is hooked into now?

Thanks. I have searched for hours on old threads . can't find help.

I would think you need to pull the nobs off and unscrew the shaft nuts. Unit slides out from the back. Disconnect wires and you have it. The mounting area is made of fiberglass so make sure you ground the new unit. Good luck

If you're removing an old/original radio you will almost certainly have to cut into the dash to fit a new one.

BEFORE CUTTING ANYTHING- be aware that most new car stereos use a locking method using two long narrow metal "Keys" . You remove the faceplate, then using one key on each side, the keys will release the radio body. The inner housing will remain that is clamped to the sides of the car's opening, you'll have to bend the mounting tabs inward to release the housing. These instructions should come with the new stereo. I just went through this with my new Sony cd a few months ago. If you don't have access to the keys or don't want to mess with it- just take the car to Best Buy or other stereo shop, they will have the keys and can remove it for a nominal fee.
Attached is a photo of my old Kenwood with the keys, housing and faceplate for it.
p.s.- I found the Kenwood "Keys" on Ebay for about $5.00. (installed by PO)
