    Hi everyone,

    I have a '79 GT4 with a factory sunroof.

My problem is that the black felt looking seal that runs around the roof has perished in places. I always try not to drive it in wet weather (not easy in England!) but washing it can be tricky! and I'm worried about water getting in.
So my questions are....is the seal a seperate part? and is it gonna be a massive job to fix?
Any suggestions on repairing this would be much appreciated.

    With thanks

    Paul

Don't worry about the felt seal being watertight, it is more of a dust seal. Any water that gets past the felt lands in a (for lack of a better word) "tray" that channels the water to the "sunroof drains". There are 6 drains, 2 down the A pillars to the bottom of the car near the lower front A arms, 2 down the B pillars that just dump inside of the fenders behind the doors (very bad idea!) and one down each of the "sail pillars" ending by the gas tanks.

As with any car equipped with a sunroof, clean open drains are of the upmost importance. If the drains are clogged the water will pool in the tray until you drive around a corner, then you will get a shower (don't ask me how I know).

IIRC, the felt seal material is nothing special and should be available at most places that supply collision repair or restoration shops with materials such as window gaskets and channels.

Thanks for clearing that up Mike. I will definately take a look at the drain holes to ensure they are clear....when it stops raining! At least I got a good car cover ;-)
