Hello all, After months of toiling with ZF, I have a couple answers which are fairly absolute. Several Ferrari's used the same synchros as in the 308. NO cross reference on these babies. Here are the specific emails:

    Hello John -

I think we have this figured out finally.......

The one part number you provided (1249304278) has been replaced by 1249304570. My contact was able to work with a colleague in Germany to determine that it's #16 from the diagram you provided.

We do not stock this here. Germany does have it available to ship.

    Thanks-Chris

    and

    Hello John -

From what I could see this is a specialized part that does not fit any current applications.

Since it's a special order I can process a credit card order. It lists for $353.49.

Please note that I would need to fly this in from Germany and it cannot be cancelled.

    Thanks-Chris

OK, so what does this mean exactly? Which syncros does it apply to?

What was you intent, to find a relatively inexpensive current production syncro that will fit in the old 308 gearbox?

    Thanks,
    Doug

My intent was to find out if the Ferrari synchros are strictly Ferrari only synchros, which they all are. I am sure we were all hoping they were also used on some random Volvo truck or something, but no :/

Have you spoken with Lloyd Butfoy at RBT Transmissions in Los Angeles? Most of the internals are ZF and he's the official importer for most of their parts. He's been very helpful in finding ZF parts for other marques.

I have left no stone unturned in my search. The person I dealt with is a tech for ZF in Chicago and has been working directly with ZF Germany in regards to this issue (reviewed with quite a few people in Germany to get this right). The ZF part number most people have other than Ferrari themselves is an outdated ZF part number which shows the part to be n/a. Through much review, we weeded out what is what and have found the part to be Ferrari specific which was the ultimate goal. Many in the past said they thought the part was a Porche part or x, y, or, but no; it is Ferrari *only*.
