I thought the ad was honest, which is nice to see. I don't consider that a negative. It showed the car for what it was, what it is and what it needs. I don't think it came across as a "glorified parts car." The upgraded differential, improved fuse panel and the YouTube vid clearly showed otherwise (and helped IMO). I do think it would help if you fixed the tach and fog lights. eBay might not be the best place for this car. Try an ad on Ferrariads.com (plus subscribe to fchat). The sale may not go as fast as you'd like, but proper ad placement certainly wouldn't hurt. Also, re: Tubbs signature, which is fittingly on the passenger side, it's too bad Crockett didn't sign the driver's side! :D There's probably a cool story behind that. Anyway, love the car! Best of luck to you!

This is an interesting offer. If I wanted to let go of my 308, I would be tempted.
I do have this idea of buying a Testarossa and doing a cross country stint, but that will have to be in a few years.

Th FJ needs resuscitation too. (You're apparently a more honest guy than me). If you're interested, let me know. I lost my nerve after witnessing two nasty accidents caused by morons not paying attention. I'll never ride on two wheels again. The price is right. Just promise not part it out for a Legends car...if those things are still around (???)

Over the weekend I thought very hard about this car. Even went through your photos with my fiancee. As I am only a few miles south of you in Bradenton, it would be a quick drive up there. I may be the only one who thinks this, but I personally think the price is too high and the fact that it will likely need a major within a year scares the hell out of me. God knows what that is going to cost. I'd want to re-do that interior and who knows what expense, too, and this just seems too high for a project car. We have no emissions testing south of the Skyway bridge, so the mods do not bother me.

I'd be a first time Ferrari owner and I don't think this is the way to start out. I also had a real estate opportunity pop up this week making things even more iffy, although I think I'll have an answer on that by mid week next week. I do like the car, though, just not the price for what I think needs to be done to get it in tip top shape.

Here's a silver one (no word on whether it's had a major) for $48k with 29k miles

A really nice looking black 1990 (no word on major either), looks well cared for

    RMX,
Give me a call at any time at 727-612-9919. I can meet you half way. Once you see the car you may be able to better appreciate it. BTW Major is $5K at European in St.Pete. But inform yourself on major intervals, as this one was majored 3 years and 3.5K miles ago!

I have to concur with the others. Given a TR's high cost of maintenance, the fact that your TR is not emissions legal, and the overall average condition of the vehicle, the low 40's seems reasonable.

Kudos to you for being honest in your ad though.

I've never seen a 100-point 308, and if it exists you won't get near it for under $50K.

308 QV should sell for a bit more than a TR this spring, IMHO. I'm hearing/seeing a lot of interest in these cars.

I'm an '80s car guy, but couldn't stomach the service/parts costs on a car that's probably not going to appreciate enough to alleviate the sting.

    I agree with you.

For those of you keeping score at home, the Fog lamps are now operational.

Thanks for the Vice squad support, don't think it goes unnoticed, I'll put in a good word for you;)

$49k reserve seems like a reasonable price for the car. I like the intake and the electrical issues that have been addressed. I am like the seller in that I tend to point out everything I know is wrong to potential buyers. That way I have nothing to hide. The only real downside to me is the color will make it hard to resell. I would not do a major service on it for two more years if I were a buyer. Good luck in the sale!

    Be careful looking.

If you do a wide search on the internet for TR's, Autotrader, Cars.com, Hemmings, Dupont, ebay etc.........you'll find about 80% of them have 30k or less on the odometer and 20% of those less than 10K, at least that is what the ads are saying.

I don't believe for one second that there are that many TR's out there with that little mileage. It's a bunch of B.S.

I've seen the same ones you have and they look tempting but there is a reason why so many TR's are relatively "cheap" these days,
    DEFERRED MAINTENANCE

I'll bet in half the cases the low mileage is the result of the odometer sensor becoming "unplugged" or "failing" for an extended period of time.

Take a close look at the puddles of brown goo under the intake runners of the silver one. This is the third time it's been on ebay in 5 months. A 29k mile car? Must not be the deal it appears to be.

And what exactly is a 30k "inspection"? No such thing, either they did an "engine out" on it or it's NOT a 30k.

I know I am sounding skeptical here but with good reason.

The ad that Rebirthauto has posted for this car is probably one of the better ones I've seen for a long while.
I would be more interested in this white TR with "problems" than the ad that gives a glowing description of a pampered, pristine car, a history lesson about the TR and how it's such a chick magnet, typical hard sell smoke blowing....................................A GOOD CAR SELLS ITSELF

I find that the things that are NOT mentioned in an ad speak LOUDLY about what things AREN'T about a car.

Go look at the white one, get a PPI. Think about buying the car ONLY on the merits and condition of the car itself, ignoring the paperwork for the moment., and see where the dollar value is relative to the market.
