I'm in the process of replacing the trunk pan on my '78 308. I have a new pan thanks to Paul Newman! The one thing I'm having a hard time finding is what kind of insulation I can use to replace the old rock wool stuff that came out.

It would be great if I could find something that will stand up to the heat of being right next to the cats and muffler without absorbing moisture (and breeding rust!) like the old stuff.

I've tried googling, Thomas.Net and all the other sources I could think of. I did find one company that makes some pretty good looking stuff but am not sure if they will deal with someone like me for such a small quantity.

I'm calling one of thier distributors tomorrow to find out but wanted to see if there was anyone that had an idea.

    Thanks for the help!!

    John

I remember someone mentioning a ceramic fiber insulation in the old fchat , but don't remember any specifics.

Thanks Verell, I didn't search the old archives! I'll take a look there.

local aircraft parts suppliers should have enough "scrap" rolls left over to give to you or sell cheap if you ask. tell them about the ferrari, they will most likely be glad to help. find a place without the military security that services "normal" aircraft and you will surely find some gearheads willing to help.

i wish i could help. we throw away all sorts of cool stuff, but its very hard to get permission to take stuff home. we get searched coming and going every day and every shift, and i am fine with that given all thats going on in the world. i will see if i can find out who we get our stuff from, if i can pm you the info and if they sell to the public.
