Brackets are not needed, simply drain out the oil and compress the existing bracket and all is well. You can get your bumper in, where you want it, in less than on hour. The worst part is cleaning up the oil that will drain out. If you drill and tap the cyl. you can lock the bumper exactly where you want it. Cost? 0, go figure1 Lost

Rizzo this doesn't look like to much of a deal to fab up a bracket. The bumper comes off with 4 bolts and 2 connectors. I bet you can take a few pieces of angle iron (or alumin) and cut them to the length you want and either weld or bolt them up. I can see a few ways of doing this . Then again if you want to pay the $130 for the kit then it's a simple installation.

Hey Guys, I removed the front bumper on my 308. I drilled a hole in each shock to release the oil. I then placed 2 concrete blocks standing on their end in front of each other, then I placed 2 - 2 foot 2x8 pieces of wood (wide side down on the 2 blocks)on the 2 blocks. Then I put another 2x 6 x5 ft on top on the blocks and wood. Then I used my 308 jack between the wall and the end of the 2x6x5ft piece of wood and slowly extended the jack and the shocks moved inward.

What is the correct distance the bumper should be pushed in?

    1", 1-1/2" ?????????

    Thanks in advance.

    Charles

I got two predrilled struts on eBay for $25 (saving my originals). I ended up mounting the bumper and then pushing it in by hand till I got the look I wanted. Did not take much to move it.

I think the molded reveal line in the bumper is meant to align with the leading edge of the sheet metal of the front clip.

As Pininfarina and Enzo are both dead, it would be hard to confirm design intent...but that's about the protrusion of the smaller European unit. Back of the turn signal is 1/2" +/- from the metal.

I have been putting my 82 308 gtsi on a diet, I am going to order the MAcarbon shock replacements for the front bumper to remove some weight
and move the front bumper in.
Question is.. anyway to lighten up the friggin boat anchor bumpers? (short of switching to Euro bumpers). What are they made of? Could the back of the bumpers be drilled to get rid of some weight? Anybody try this?

Using the MACarbon bumper bracket tube will not remove any weight, well, at most maybe two pounds. All you're doing is replacing the old bumper shock with a shorter aluminum tube. You're still using the stock US bumper that weigh about 40 lbs.

I don't think this will work, lightening the bumpers I mean. Seems to be rubber wrapped around steel. I think you'll just ruin them trying, would be interesting to see the insides of one though.

If you care that much, just buy euro replacements.

I drilled, not much came out, old dried up, I guess, then pushed it in by hand and put set screws in. Lined up the crease with sheet metal as mentioned, also changed signals, eliminated side markers and added Euro repeaters, hooked up as side markers. No side rear markers, but I did NOT push the rear bumper in, I had longer stainless tips made, slightly larger too, so mine is a modified US version, but I like the look better, now If I could lower the front 1" and space the rear wheels out about 1/2" each, that would add to the look without making it look modified, right? Oh well, I like it!

    That's the rub.
I've been "tapped" too many times to mess with the bumpers. Without the shocks, I'm sure I would have had a more front & rear damage to the body.
