Well, I don't know about you guys, but I'm doing some house renovations and landscaping because I want to, not because the wifey is telling me I should. Same for the ferraris and other cars, I spend what I want and do what I want and she knows better than to even try to squeak out a suggestion otherwise. It just seems to work better at my house when I'm calling the shots....

Interesting. Surely your wife has some input, otherwise that is not very fair.

I consider marriage a equal partnership ... but I'm going to unsubscribe from this great thread is something isn't welded very soon ;) :D

Oh yeah, she has lots of input. She's no shrinking violet...she was a captain in the army not that long ago. I guess the distinction is that she doesn't tell me what to do (and I nor her) it just works out without having to resort to such statements. The chain of command goes Major Pain (me), Capt. Mom (my wife), Sgt. Farty (my duaghter), Prvt. Parts (my son), and my twin daughters just born haven't been assigned dog tags just yet.

A statement so grounded in reality from a guy that has a project that is mind boggling. I guess that's how you maintain mental balance.:p:p

Soon. The yard work is pretty much done, now the EFI conversion need to go home. Another month. Hopefully after the 4th holiday.

I've been talking with race engine Steve a bit and I want to play with the port a little more and see if I can cut the intake valves down just a touch because the graph seems to show them interfering with each other a bit betwwen about .250 and .350 lift. Also I'd like to try a slightly different seat profile. Then I'll weld the rest.

No pics of welding, but something interesting. When I plugged the info for my buddy’s R6 motorcycle into the simulator the output matched his dyno results pretty close. If the drive train loss is 15%, the software was within 1%. Even more interesting is if I scale for displacement and rpm between his engine and mine I get a number that is within 1 % of what the software is predicting for my engine.....I can't wait unitl this thing runs.....

    It's gonna be interesting Mark.

Do you think the stock half shafts are up to handling the power the new engine will be putting out?

I like reading your thread, and these updates are great: seeing a tractor thread any day now, thinking V12 diesel.

That sounds more like one of my answers to a question like that, Mark.

Speaking of tractors: A friend of mine has a turbocharger on his Farmall "H" or "M" (can't remember which) and it's not for tractor-pull contests. He uses it on his farm.

I'm not getting much done on my project either lately. Too many distractions in spring.

I just finished reading/viewing a long thread on a complete rebuild of a 400i engine, and as it's a Colombo V12, I see it's a very COOL engine and I can see the attraction, but how are you interface the much longer longitudinal V12 into the 308 transverse transaxle ?

Or are you going to use a different transaxle ? What is your plan ?

    Andy,
Go back to the start of this thread and you will see the progression of the incredible work that has been done to adapt the V12 block to the 308 transmission. And also adapting Testarossa 4V heads. There's tons of great pictures.

As Speedmade said, take some time to flip through the rest of the thread and look at the pics. The trans adaption part is pretty much done and I’m in the “make stupid amount of hp” phase....once a couple other home projects are done anyway.

OK, I feel better now, got my fix.

I also worry about the stock 308 half shaft / stub axle strength. But if it becomes an issue, I'm certain you will just fab up some custom Aerospace Quality Titanium/Beryllium alloy cryogenicly treated high strength units or something ;-).

    Right.

With the crazy hp numbers coming from rpm as much as the displacement increase and the change in drop gear ratio I’m not going to be putting much if any more torque to axles then I was with the blower motor. The 308 CVs are 108mm, which are good but 120mm CVs are also available and larger stronger stub axles and everything else could be made to go with them without too much trouble if it comes to it…..but I think the stock ones will be fine.

Today I sent the cam guy an email asking if he would be so kind as to box the cam billets back up and ship them to Web. We’ll see what happens.......I think it's been 9 or 10 months now that he's had them.

    Hey Mark,

Sorry to hear this guy has been jerking you around and wasting your time. I talked to him about a year ago and (to me) sounded like he didn't really want to do the job.

I just got off the phone with him.....after we spoke last time he got the plan all mixed up and was waiting for info from me....while I was waiting on him. He says lobe options to me Monday and the grinding process will start within a couple days of me telling him which what profile. I think we'll have to grind test lobes to run on a cam doctor to be sure but it sounds like things are rolling.....we'll see Monday.
