I'm wondering what's the best way to hardwire a V1 (new model, if it matters) to a 308 QV GTS. I didn't find too much on the topic on Fchat, though I did see mention of tapping into the map light wire (and adding an inline fuse?). In other cars, I generally just do either the SAVVY OBD II plug or an add-a-circuit on a spade fuse, neither of which will work here (unless I get the "turtlefarmer" fuse box, which sounds good for various reasons). Anyone have a good solution for hardwiring that's easy to do? (Mounting is fine, I'll just suction cup it beside the mirror.) Bonus if you have a good option for an extinguisher mount in the 308, now that the Garven ones are no longer available... Cheers
I ran a line up the a pillar to the passenger sunvisor and keep a sunvisor V1 mount up there. It is wired into a switched fuse on a separate small 4 fuse panel I made down by the real fuse panel. A remote is positioned in front of me as you can see here so I can see it go off when I cannot hear it. I tapped off the interior light positive years ago after getting another lens that I cut a small hole in the side to allow the wire to the V1 to exit but I never use it. Whenever I need to I just clip the V1 on the passenger visor and plug it in. I never leave it in the car. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I can't help with the hardwiring, but I'll go for the bonus points by recommending one off these extinguishers (which I own too), which can go in the door pocket so you can avoid drilling holes in your car for a traditional FE mount:
Thanks! I know them, I have two. When I first got them, I remember doing a LOT of digging on the company, because there is something fishy about the various brands selling the same thing and it's very hard to see who the actual manufacturer is. I read all sorts of forums and watched all the tests that were out there, but came away thinking that while these are a neat add on, I have yet to see a report of someone actually using them on a real life fire with success (and I saw some head to head tests that showed a regular halguard was much better). As such, i put the elements in the door pockets of my 993TT (two is one, one is none, and all that) but still got a Safecraft 2.5lb on a bracket.
Nice setup. I had the V1 remote display and tried to use it on a couple of cars - -this may be the first one where there's actually a useful place to put it. I usually just use the main unit... Cheers
What is the Garven mount? I have a mount that was attached to the passenger's seat rails when I purchased my car .
