This came up briefly in a recent thread.

The 308 and 328 both use a steel tubular chassis / subframe (like race cars of the day).

I have read in The Complete Guide To The Ferrari 308 that there were differences in 308 U.S. spec vs Euro-spec tube frames (additional bracing at the bumper part of the frame).

But is there a difference in the 308/328 tubular frames? Are they the exact same, or were there changes in reinforcement, length, materials, etc.?

The book referenced above also mentioned that Ferrari did not make the frames - they were brought in from "Outside". So who made the frames?

The frame mfg was posted a few months ago, Search tech Q&A & this forum for '308' 'frames' & 'manufactured', should bring it up.

this is why there are assembly numbers stamped into the chassis's frame steel where the coils mount on 308s. not sure about 328s, but it seems to be popular opinion the chassis were made in batches of 12 at a time. it was posted who made the chassis, but i dont remember who.

    Great information - thanks.

So, are the frames the same between the 308 and 328?

The WSM shows at least 3 variations on the suspension mount locations....I was trying to check mine and it took a bit to figure out which set of numbers to use.

    Mike,
The basic chassis/suspension layout really dates to the Dinos. Of course they were updated throughout. I cannot say with certainty, but I bet that the 328 has many minor revisions probably including suspension mounting points, etc.
