I've searched and searched but can't find the posts with photos of 308's with stock and after market wheels. I'm at the point of purchasing wheels and tires for my '84 308 and can't make up my mind if I should stay with factory wheels or go for some more bling with a more modern wheel? I want to stay with the 5 spoke style but can't remember who is making 'newer' looking ones. Can someone direct me to the posts with the photos? Thanks

    Hey Lou,

If you want to go aftermarket and want a star pattern, I'd look into Compomotive or HRE. If you are interested in non star patterns, then look into Kinesis or Fikse.

Let us know what you end up doing. I can't wait to see that car.

I too chose to stick with Ferrari wheels but upgraded from the stock 14" 308GTB wheels to 16" 328 (non-ABS) wheels. As posted earlier, the wheels won't fit a 308's front hubs because of the grease caps. I chose to not modify the wheels but rather, changed grease caps. Here's how they look on the car.

    Lou,

If you want my opinion...if you want to stay (somewhat) original, I'd go for the 328 rims from superformance. Just look at Rick's silver 308. I like the look of the 328 edges over the QV wheels. If you want to go with 17" wheels then I'd look into Compomotive. I think both are reasonably priced.

Thanks everyone for your input. Once I saw all the different styles the decision seemed easy. I'm going to go with the Superformance 16" wheels. I like the look of the newer wheels, especially the polished or satin finished ones but the original look will fit my car the best, so I think. (No my wife had nothing to do with the decision, yeah right!) I'm also going to go with up sized tires as most of you have. I'm getting close to having the car on the road! Hooray!

The 328-style wheels are wider in the rear than in the front - by 1/2" I think. That allows you to use a wider tire in the rear but to do so, and keep the circumfrence the same, you have to use a lower profile tire. The end result is that the sidewall height is the same but the tread width is greater.

Personally, I wouldn't dick with the aspect ratio much beyond what is used on the 328. We must remember that the tire is a major component of the suspension and the metal bits are designed to work in concert with the rubber sidewall bits.

If you go to TireRack and request info on a Ferrari 328 with 16" wheels, the site will quote the correct tire sizes. -rick, '79 308GTB with 328 wheels

    Lou,
The third pic from the bottom (with the black Celica in the background) is my 308 with the Superformance replicas. 16x8 in the back, 16x7 in the front. I love them. Sure, I would prefer the original magnesium ones, but I couldn't find a set for anything resembling a reasonable price. For $1500 the Superformance wheels are fantastic. They look great, they are brand new and perfectly true, they are the right size and WOW the 16" modern rubber is a revelation to the 308.

OK, I'm sold on going back to OEM style wheels. But, I'm a bit confused. What, if any, are the differences between Superformance wheels and the wheels from Ferrari UK? Most everyone talks about the Superformance wheels as being superior wheels. What/how are the wheels from Ferrari UK?
I've purchased some stuff from both places in the past and wouldn't hesitate ordering from either of them again. I just interested in the difference in the wheels, if any. Thanks...

No, just the "straight edge" design vs. the earlier "wavy edges around lugs" form of the 14" Chromos, Campys or Speedlines....not convex ABS.

I ordered the Superformance replicas now as well (to replace the original 14"). But the question now, which tires to choose.

Do you have some information, which tires do best on a ´79 308GTB?

    Not the size, the type.

    Thanks!

A friend used to have the Bridgestone S02N3 - they were originally made especially for the Porsche Boxster and are now I believe being made again - highly recommended

These are 16 inch HRE 505's, made to replicate the design of the 288 GTO wheel. They also have the simular look of the F-40 wheel. Many I have seen seem to be polished far beyond any stock appearance, where as these are probably a bit on the other end and could use a some spit polish and cleaning. I never asked HRE about standard sizes or offsets, but these wheels are 8 inch wide in front, 8 1/2 inch wide rear, and as you can see, different offsets. I have 225/50 front, 245/50 rear.
