So hypotheticly if a friend has retrofitted a Chevrolet 5L V8 400hp, into his 308 and he blows the doors off of my non-modded 308 with only 205 HP, the Vin #s on the steering column, chassis, and door plate all start with ZFF, is it still a Ferrari ? or a Ferrarilet, More power, more speed, in a 308 body, Would Enzo, who is all about speed, be happy to see his car once again going faster than most cars on the street, or turning over in his grave over the basterization of his beloved design ? I guess the poll will show...deal or no deal.... rephrased.... Ferrari or no Ferrari
Ferrarilet. I like modified cars, but one personal rule I have is the engine most be from the same maker as the title. I have nothing against engien swaps and I once build a fiadilac (fiat x1/9 with a 500 ci caddy engine), but I wouldn't call it a fiat or a caddy.
It's still a Ferrari, or more accurately, a FrankenFerrari. As a matter of fact, I've been researching precisely that conversion, and I think you could build that car for the cost of a "while you're in there" dealer major and get 100,000 miles of troublefree service from it. I wouldn't do that to my current 328, but for a "parts car" 308 with a busted motor? Get a heart transplant and go hunting
DANG ! thats got to be one quick car, but a major shoehorn job to squeeze that large engine into that small car, how did the handling / performance compare with your blown 308? the power to weight ratio must have been impressive. >> thinking of Lotus Exige << I have seen your many posts on you blower mods on your 308. Do you have any fotos of your Fiadilac? Since this may be "off topic" possibly send to personal e-mail Address thanks.
BTW: If you all don't think it's the chassis that forms the car, check the vintage section. The biggest fight is about a missing chunk of tubing, and the biggest discovery lately was a collection of rusted tubing under a kit car body. The important thing in both cases was the stamping (or lack thereof) on that tubing.
This is all I could find, nothing of when it was running. Traction limited from accelerating better than the 308 and it handled like the pig it was. I never really finished it, but it ran....and I learned that I should never ever touch a body panel again. It turned up on ebay a couple years ago looking just the way it did 20 years ago when I sold it. The 308 is the best handling and driving car I've ever owned. Thanks Mark for digging through your archives to find / scan, those vintage fotos, I can now see how you mangaged your shoehorn job, by building the car around the engine, and its massive headers. very interesting. A definate white knuckle ride I would imagine thanks again. Mark
i pmed BetaScorpion about his p4 replica as i would love to learn more about these cars, and his quest to make it a street car. so i for one would love to read more about it and see pics. also i will step up and say that BetaScorpion was very concerned about discussion of his car turning into yet another 0846 debate. i for one would think the mods would do their duty to not allow that to happen, and allow the rest of us to enjoy learning more about this car, and the father and son efforts and fun that went into it. i would love to read about you and your fathers track time and any mods you have done to the car. ps : we need pics! bumping thread.... Michael
Just reading these specs makes me feel happy. This guy knows how to enjoy his Ferrari with using the potential of this wonderful Ferrari. That's my opinion. Everyone who spends energy/money/love to his F-car, deserves recognition. Marcel
