I'd like to upgrade from my 14" Cromos.
Do I need to alter suspension components?
Superformance are advertising sets of wheels 16x7 and 16x8
    What size tyres?

That's what Tire Rack (here in the US, very good outfit) recommends. As far as wheels, I would say 16x7 would be the way to go, 7" being the nominal width for the tire sizes listed. You could use 8" on the back if you opted for the 225/50s, but it would not be necessary. 8" width might give you clearance problems. Good luck!

The standard 16 in tyre size is 205/55 front 225/50 - there a few threads in the 308 section about wheels & tyres
