She finally came home after mods, changes, and upgrades. The 308 project is coming along nicely indeed. Verell, sorry the new front Euro aero did not fit and am awaiting a replacement, so using my old tattered one for now. Did you get my old radiator or ????

Changes to car this month include:

Custom fabricated front and also rear tow rings. The stock front tow loop, if used, would DESTROY the deep Euro aero and dam. KTR European here in New England fabricated some nice ones. No cutting to the car was needed as they simply use the same bolt as the Euro bumper.

Ferrari specialist David at KTR was impressed by Fchat sponsor Nick Forza's alu radiator. Very minor mod of spacers and she went right in and looks great. Will see how is handles temps at the track this weekend.

Since my alternator was acting up, and it is only right that i have a POSITIVE electrical kill switch (per SCCA, etc rules) the alt was fixed and wired up the kill switch. This is something i should have done long ago for safety sake.

KTR did all the above work. i simply added the Durable 1 reaction rod on the engine as the stock unit allow WAY TOO MUCH movement during hard braking. My stock reaction rod had new inserts so it was not due to using old ones. The problem is during hard braking the engine moves forward too much with a stock unit and thereby it seems to cause downshifting problems and the linkage gets out of alignment. The Durable 1 unit keeps the engine in good alignment and allows for less movement.

Lastly, had the headers coated inside and out by Jet-Hot. AWESOME! This should greatly stop the possibility of corrosion and also lower the exhaust temps plus allow a smoother flow of exhaust gasses.

Ooops, almost forgot. David at KTR, who BTW has worked on many Fcars including 333 and others, dialed in a slightly different front wheel alignment. Drove on many twisty roads last night and she turns is well now and needs less input to do so. The usual 308 wide turn and wander is now very crisp and precise. Have a feeling the tight turn uphill and bowl at NHIS will be more rewarding than previously.

Tomorrow is a track day... more to come :)

    Steven,

Would you sketch out the front tow ring design including where you connected it to the body? This is something I've wanted to add to my car for a long time. Good luck at the track - keep the shiny side up.

Congrats! You have everything connected BUT the actual bolts that mount them to the floor. All i did was unbolt the four holding bolts from the floorboard and ship 'em to you. Hope they work out as they were fine for me. If you have any questions feel free to post or PM me.

Thanks, but long before I can even think about mounting them in the car we have a long and complex process of putting new hides on them first. A true winter project.

Not sure what they cost me as have not received the bill, but it may be best to give credit where credit is due. Besides, these guys worked hard for it and have done MANY units for various cars. Call them and ask for David their Ferrari specialist as am sure they can make a set for you. FYI, David has done A LOT of race support including quite a bit for an Fcar 333 :)

OK, so I can tell that the kill switch is located in the spare tire well, but how is it accessed from outside?

oh no....I don't want to hear the answer to that one. I hope it didn't involve a drill and your hood/bonnet.

We looked and looked for a spot, yet this was the only real choice. The tire well is a no go for obvious reasons, can't mount it on the side of the car for obvious reasons. So yes, we have a hole in the hood and i am adding a grommet shortly. The unit is water proof so all is good there when i have the key removed. Hoods are easy to fix or buy new anyway, but THE LIFE IT SAVES MAY BE MY OWN.

Besides, i can;t see it when driving and it is positioned for best aerodynamics. :)

285Ferrari: So far the days have been cool, will know more this weekend for track days, but should be great. i don;t miss the extra 15 lbs of weight that is for sure :)

Thanks tifosi12. In the end some things just need to be done and, frankly, i do not regret any of it. Safety first!

Scotty: Yes, yes and indeed YES! Expect to see me at virtually every open track day when i am not out of town on a job. Would most appreciate your advice and help when we are driving together.

FYI: i was assigned Donald Pierce (Miata owner) as an instructor. You know him by chance?

    LOL! Nice!

As far as the switch goes, I settled for the universal "Switch Off" symbol at the base of my windshield, pointing at the stock ignition......

I'll just bake quietly until the corner workers get there.......actually San Jac Crash Rescue is pretty good....I have their logo on the dash inside, to remind me that out on the streets, they ARE NOT standing by.........

Wow, you're hard core! Is that required by the track organization you like to run with? I never ran any lapping sessions that required any such thing!

Alternate locations for others considering this in the future might be something located under the headlight louvers (to be removed for the track day) or in place of a Euro side marker light with a clever mounting. There may be other considerations preventing these that I haven't accounted for, though.

don_xvi: side marker is bad as odds are you can get close to other things and have it torn off. The standard folks usually choose this type of location for their switch and best not to confuse the corner workers.

goldyF355: glad you enjoy the look, as for my grammar... point noted.

BigAl: Yes we cut a hole, its just a car and they made MANY THOUSANDS of them. Hoods can be fixed or replaced if need be. Bet you Ferrari UK has at least 20 hoods in their stock right now. Yes it is a Ferrari, but it is MY LIFE and safety first.

    Steven,
The tow rings look great. I remember when I had mine towed. It was a bi*ch getting the hook to attach. But, have you thought about painting the rings black to match the bumpers?

While visually that may be good, as i recall yellow is the standard color for tow rings and last thing i want is to confuse a corner worker while the car needs attention... RIGHT NOW :(
