Newbie question! Just completed first long distance over 10 days, about 1000 miles with temperatures here in the UK nudging 19*! (And no rain). Used the A/C which works- a bit!

I noticed dust and crud in the cabin. Looking at the parts diagram it would appear the air intake(s) for both Heating and A/C are under the car with no guard or filter. Have I got this correct?

Car went well, nothing further failed though I managed to bottom it-twice - on the appalling roads. Also learned a lot about optimum speeds, noise, distances to travel etc.

Yes there are filters in front of the heating boxes most of them are al gone by now you can look by a airco shop for those filter material and cut it on size.

I use Halfords eze gas to recharge at the start of summer .They do a leak gunk as well which used a few yrs ago once .
Judging by the gauge on the recharge bottle ( about £60 ) the system was approx 1/2 full .
A bottle lasts 3 fill ups .The instructions that come with it are self explanatory .
We were ice cold at the WE outside temp was 24 Sat afternoon York’s area .

Sure the R 134 partially leaks out by the autumn but the time / hassle of chasing it in my view at present not worth it .My AC pipes front to rear looked new when I acquired the car back in 2018 so I assume r134 compatibility?

On larger euro trips ( outside temp 30 + degrees ) and blazing Med sun we place a yellow cotton cover over the black dash top .
Holes cut for the 3 vents .This these cars don’t have tinted glass and the solar glaring / glazing effect is prominent.
    Covering the “ black “ helps .

The only problem ( well documented on here ) for GT 4 owners and I suspect 308 owners as the identical mechanical systems…is after a couple of hrs the air box over the passengers feet starts to drip condensation as it gets so cold and humidity causes the water to condense .So my wife places a small towel over her shoes …..when that starts to happen .

Like the filter mesh in the post above , when new there was a black spongy mesh lining the heat exchanger ( the box above the passenger feet) and a drain .Check the drains patent obviously. But without the sponge lining the exterior of the box gets so cold thsts where the water condensers and ends up dripping .This is additional to the internal condensation that runs out with the drain .Your “ dust and crud “ could be this lining breaking down throwing black particles into the cabin ??
Eventually it’s all blown out leaving an un insulated box and resulting in the wet feet syndrome.

To fix its a PITA job to remove and split this box , re glue another insulated lining inside .Reassemble and re gas the whole thing up .

As we have albeit a functional AC with a easy workaround the 3#8 “wife wet feet syndrome “ I have left this job .

Thanks for that. The car is due back at the workshop for a few things (under warranty) so I’ll ask them to top it up. Then I need to get close and personal to locate the filler point. I also need to check which refrigerant as I also have a tame local garage that might help!

Thanks for the pic-I'll investigate. We were stationary outside Chatsworth over that weekend, which was a good test for the cooling system which coped just fine.

The dash on mine has been polished and the sun reflects off it nicely in the screen. I've experimented with a sheet of matt black card which helps a bit. I'll try your idea and cover more of the dash.
