Hi guys, your help will be much appreciated on this! I have a 1983 euro spec 308qv, which I has been in long term storage, after replacing cambelts etc, I'm now trying to start up, it's fires up fine on cold start, but will not continue to run? All relays seem to be ok, wiring/ fuse box / fuses all ok, good battery, great spark at plugs, new fuel pump fitted, fuel drained and fresh put in, it seems that the fuel pump doesn't continue to work after the cold start, but if you gentle depress the air flow meter, the fuel pump works fine? Is there any other device such as an inertia switch? In the handbook wiring diagram what is 72? Any suggestions to try or help would be great! Thanks Phil .

72 is the safety switch (aka airflow meter switch) on the airflow metering unit (hadn't noticed before that they left it out of the description list in the euro 308QV OM). Just unplug it (which simulates a depressed airflow metering plate like the engine is running and drawing in air) -- the fuel pump should then run whenever the key is "on" (regardless of whether the engine is actually running or not). After unplugging, turn the key "on" and confirm that the fuel pump does run (by touching it or by sound). If it does, try starting the engine -- if the engine still won't stay running after initial light-off, the problem is elsewhere (or you have multiple problems); if the engine then does run OK, probably something wrong with the safety switch itself or its internal adjustment (the contacts of the safety switch need to be open when the airflow metering plate is in the idle position -- like ~1mm down from the cylindrical-to-conical edge transition in the airflow funnel . If you need to depress the airflow metering plate down a bunch to get the fuel pump to run with just the key "on", engine not running with safety switch plugged in, that would also be a sign that the adjustment is wrong -- IIRC, the safety switch adjustment is shown in the Mondial8/QV WSM 281/83).

Thanks for that Steve, car now starts and runs both connected and disconnected! Although not very well! So need to dig a bit deeper to get it running OK!
