I'm running a 1985 308 qv stock muffler with cat removed. The sound is ok, not too loud. The question is, will running the tubi without the cat be obnoxiously loud? i.e. how much louder will it be than my current system?

Anyone with experience and/or an opinion? I'd love to hear from you.

Well, I have not heard it on a 84-85 QV, but have heard it on a 83QV and early carb 308's with no cats, and it is LOUD! YOU WILL HAVE TO TALK LIKE THIS TO YOUR PASSENGER ALL THE TIME,...OKAY? :)

I have a 1985 308QV with a stock muffler and a hollowed out cat. The car is LOUD. Many people have commented on how loud the car is and how nice it sounds. The sound of my car is much deeper than if I had a Tubi. I know of two people who have a 308QV with a Tubi and they like the sound of my car better. Save your money and skip the Tubi.

The Tubi with a "test pipe" (straight pipe, no cat) certainly sounds raspy but approaches intolerable audio levels for most people, as nice as it sounds.

A less expensive alternative is the stebro system with test pipe (www.stebro.net) but Dan at Stebro is a slippery fella so be sure to pay by credit card in case he never ships or overcharges. The tubi exhaust and test pipe will be in the range of $2,500 whereas the stebro is around $1,500. The stebro is not as pretty but the build quality is pretty good. The stebro and test pipe on my 88 3.2QV has a lot of resonance at idle and has a piercing shriek like an ice pick to the temple at 7,000 rpm. As long as you don't have to drive it every day for a long commute then you can enjoy the heavy metal concert in limited doses.

I have a Stebro that fit great and sounds great on my 308QV. It came in about 2 weeks after I ordered it. My test pipe ("euro resonator" came in about a week after I ordered it. No problems.

It's not that much louder. Tubi is a legal sound deading muffler. It can not be so loud. AT idle, Tubi or Stock are pretty much the same, IMO. When accelerate, tubi scream louder with shaper noise. But Tubi give better performance than stock, 10 hp..something. Would I put Tubi in my 308, NO, because my carb 308 has a very nice sound, free from sound deading law in the late 70's. So, it's as natural as Ferrari wanted them to be. But if I got the 308 QV, Tubi was a must for me...

I was speaking of the specific cars mentioned (83 QV, and early 308 carb cars) without a catalytic converter. Yes, at idle, normal sound, when accelerating, a mighty WAIL! I have the sound clip from Gary Reed's 308QV with no cat and Tubi...if someone can host the clip, I will send it so everyone can hear it.

That's a subjective evaluation. My 328 runs a stock exhaust, which was fine for suburbia. But in the city, every time I pull into or out of the underground parking garage, I set off the car alarm in my boss's Camry.

If you're out in the sticks, where you can let 'er run, go for it. If you spend time in tunnels and undergrounds ...

The problem I find with the Tubi is that awful stainless finish. I really looks awful when you follow a Ferrari. Sort of like those awful chromed wheels that started out in LA. Chrome is no class.

I have an Ansa that has worked pretty well. Since it's done quite a few track days, the insides have been spit out and it now sounds like some people think a Ferrari ought to sound. It depends on your age and hearing acuity.

It's a small company... he handles North America sales. They don't go through resellers. Use a credit card and you'll be ok.

By the way, if you're a Ferrari Club (FCA) member, be sure to ask for your 10% discount...

In defense of Dan and Stebro, the system fit the car very well - dimensions/positioning was all spot on. The welds aren't polished and there's a little welding slag here and there, however, the overall appearance is quite acceptable and looks like a proper system. A lot of labor, skill and materials goes into one of these systems, so, for $1,500 the buyer is doing pretty good. Even my lipstick and nails wife can appreciate the roar as we blast through some of the tunnels here in Seattle (although I don't think that's too great for my 6mo old's tender ears...).

You can always try a Larini System or Stainless Exhaust Specialists....both of whom I have only heard good about and they are in the $1500 range.

I just installed a Flowmaster dual in, single out on my '77 Euro 308 and REALLY like it! The low gear back pressure sounds awesome.
