This one looks really nice not seeing anything to pick apart on it. Being a one owner it is a rare piece. Few comments about the cost of the last repair invoice, my guess would be that the car sat for awhile which is probably why they made the decision to sell it and they had it gone through so it would bring the most money which is what I would do.
Beautiful car but I’m surprised to see it go to $100k without a single video to get a sense of how it runs. I guess the recent comprehensive service and mechanical work is a good proxy for that - still surprised as I know BaT auctions greatly benefit from having videos.
It Makes this 35Kmile one owner 83 on ebay look like a steal. https://www.ebay.com/itm/314330030521?hash=item492f87a1b9:g:ncIAAOSww75jxgyw I appreciate rust prevention but since these are mostly garage art nowadays, Is the 85 really worth much more to us than the 83 or early 84 in your opinion. Am I missing something about the 85 GTS that sets it far apart from the rest of the QV's or should the ebay seller inflate his price?
I think the 85 gets a slight bump over 83/84 (zincrox, upgraded injection..) but I don't think it's that significant. Not sure if I missed them but I don't see any pics of the undercarriage. Hard to gauge the condition of the chassis, suspensions, etc... Also often helps spot a leaking or weeping engine or gearbox. The BaT just went through $15k service so there's definitely value there for the next owner. Peace of mind

Arguably better serviced car. Maybe the rust prevention is epic for values or maybe BAT is suddenly Magical again after lots of "bid to" and weak sales. Interesting timing to make us believers again. Just saying, I like all 208-3x8's & consider the rust prevention a bonus but not a deal breaker by any means.
That sounds great but where do you see that info about recent service? Sorry, maybe I'm totally inept at reading eBay auctions. Not seeing anything about history of maintenance or recent work.
Watched that BAT of the '85 308 today. Just when you think the market is going soft.... The bids on recent cars were showing a lot of meh, then the 308 goes away for only 2 weeks on BAT. Now this one comes back with a crazy high opening bid ( I think $75k out of the gate) and goes well north of $100k? Not complaining of course, but I'm left feeling that something isn't right. The highest previous bid of the buyer was $16k for a Fiero. Now he drops $131k for a 308?

If you find an 83 with low miles and well taken care of, the rust proofing shouldn't come into question. If it has a spot of rust, you fix it. Also remember, all these pre-1983 Ferraris didn't have rustproofing either. But yet Dino's get as much as $600K or more now and some of them have a lot of rust in the usual spots.
One explanation here is timing: this is Wall Street bonus season - and quite a fantastic time to be a seller as there’s a major influx of money burning pockets. We see it every year and all sports car dealerships know when it’s bonus season
[QUOTE=" Not seeing anything about history of maintenance or recent work.[/QUOTE] I am old so I acted like its 1999 & Called them, talked to Parker, Very easy going guy.
Agreed! Something smells like pumping the market but IDK. If one is willing to look past hopes of high market indicators they could investigate sales on BAT to measure possible patterns of unrealistic highs after a stall as if baiting us to list with them. Simultaneously just as good or better cars listed & not selling even close to that on many other platforms? Is it possible in the auction biz to facilitate these sales to draw attention or is it just the natural state of the market being chaotic?
I was wondering the same thing about the buyer. Glad to see the car get such a strong price but it's quite far beyond what I would have expected. I was thinking $90-100K would have been a healthy sale. $131K is even high by last year's bubble standards.
I guess what did it for this one is the one owner car. Leave that factor aside and judge the car by its condition can’t be more than $90k car based on recent sales. The exterior paint was far for perfect and the interior needed some TLC. Not to mention the telephone and the alarm system which are negative factors for any purist.
Yes - this auction exemplifies the premium that some buyers put on 1-owner cars with full visibility on its history. You only need some buyers who value it that much, to create competition for top bids. Look at the runner up in that auction: https://bringatrailer.com/member/jwolfgangk/ Pretty serious buyer on BaT - super active and has been bidding on vintage Ferraris for a bit. Now, he went up to 130k and lost this one. do you think he will not bid as high on the next auction that ticks the same boxes? He probably will. And now he knows he’s ready to pay up to that price.
Doesn't look extremely bad in the pictures but problem with rust is you never know what you are fully getting into until you start tearing into it. In a 46 year old car rust is going to happen. I really like this 308 looks like a good honest car with just the right amount of 'patina'.
Tracking his other 308 bids, the range is quite wide. 1 bid to $60,000 on October 1, 2022 2 bids to $110,000 on October 11, 2022 2 bids to $66,000 on November 29, 2022 3 bids to $130,000 on January 18, 2023
