Q: Some cars appear to have been delivered to their first owner without a radio. In those cases, were the antennas also removed? Was there a plug for the hole in the quarter panel, or was the antenna hole never created in the first place?

All cars had the antenna and acoustic speakers, with or without the radio.

There is no such thing as radio delete in 308s. They never had any from the factory, they were dealer installed.

Oh well, there go more points for no radio, no speakers, and no arial on my car...the cable is there! Just looks cleaner to me...like no door locks...and no passenger side mirror. Am I a heretic?

    Ciao!

They did have factory radio deletes. Here is an original NOS I obtained from a ferrari dealer in 2014. No cars had radios from the factory. They were dealer installed.

Some recent 308 restoration/custom car had the center under dash vents moved up into the radio position...I tried a search, but can't put my finger on it. I wonder how tough that was to do.

That's what godabitib was saying: there is no factory radio delete option. It wasn't an option. No cars left the factory with a radio. Nothing optional about it. Nothing to delete.

It's like saying my car has the Disco Ball delete option. No cars had the disco ball from the factory, you have to add that yourself.

    But totally worth it.

If I was to modify somethig to put in the radio place it would be the two guages that are on the lower left of the dash by the door on my early car.

I intend to turn the space into a glove box with the delete as the door.

Evidently there was a lot of those blank covers thrown in the trash at dealers back in the day.

Concourse junkies would LOVE to have them back now. Just think of all the other stuff that was removed and tossed away when these cars were new. The clock tag comes to mind for example.

Ahh, I am pretty certain that in the 79 GTS the disco ball was an option from the factory.

To the point of the OP, all the cars DID have door speakers, and the antenna was drilled into the rear fender, as "factory prewire" , along with the up/down switch in the console.

I guess the few cars you see with the antenna at the forward edge of the roof, were also prewired that way???

It sounds like the consensus is there was an antenna on every car delivered (not some sort of plug in it's spot on the quarter or no hole at all), and all of the sound stuff was in the car aside from head units which were dealer fit in the instances customers wanted them.

I just want to make sure my car is being redone as it came from the factory - not how it wound up in the first owner's hands with dealer added *stuff*.

    Not true.

Ferrari did offer radios, deleting them was a decision of FNA. Cars in other markets did have radios.

So you are saying 308s not delivered to FNA left the factory with radios? What radio (brand/model) was that? I have to say I have never seen a euro concours car with what looked like an OEM radio.

As for FNA cars, my US 308 QV was delivered to me new w/o radio. It was not shown as a radio delete option. There was no option for a radio. Radios were dealer or owner installed. The car was prewired with speakers and antenna.

Ferrari stopped installing radios from the factory in the late 70's - long before the QV.

There was a thread on this back last fall. More details there if I can find it for you.

I have seen 308s with the radio delete or the panel completely covers in vinyl.

I'd probably trade my 80s Blaupunkt straight up for one of those radio delete panels. I have turned it on exactly once. It worked.

Since there's probably not enough NOS or spares around, I wonder if we could make one...there might be a group-buy potential.
