First of all I'm NOT selling my car (yet) but I've been thinking about this for a while now and wanted to know what you all think.

If you were going to sell your car with lets say 25,000k and the last major done 3yrs ago. Would you do the 30k and then sell it? Maybe get a little more $ and more people willing to buy it. Or sell it for less and let the new owner have the 30k done?

I just don't know if you would get all of the money back that was put into the 30k. If $10,000. was spent on the 30k you might only be able to sell the car for 6k to 8k more than if you didn't do it. Seems like a loss of 2k or more...:( I could just be crazy, what do you think?

i agree. sell it for less and let the new owner do it if he/she wishes to do so. you will be open to more prospective buyers that way

How many miles have you drove since the 30k service you did 3 years ago? How is the condition of the car in and out? I would recommend trying to sell it it without major service and see what you get.

I've put almost 8k on it since the last major. A few member here can tell you the car is in excellent condition inside and out. A few rock chips (nothing bad).

I have always done the major before selling. Not doing it affects the saleability. I find it is the first thing people ask - are the services up to date? Do it.

i'm currently shopping for a different model (550). but from my experience, the fresh service is a key selling point. from what i am seeing, sellers are not discounting enough to compensate for the costs of the service. in addition, the costs are unknown and potentially higher should anything unforeseen arise. i am now debating paying up for a newer fully serviced car as the spread differential is just another $10k or so.

It may start there....but these are 9 years old at the minimum, and upwards of 13 years old. There are lots of hidden issues that quickly add up. CV boots, leaky transaxles that need sealing up, bad radiator fans, leaking radiators, bad cats, cracked exhaust manifolds leaking shock, etc. I would be the average major service is $10k minimum, with all the add ons.
