I have a '86 328 GTS. I was given a quote for $6,000 for the major service at 30K. I have only 25,000 miles on the car but next month it will be 5 years since the last belt service. Is that cost too high?
    If so any suggestions?

    Thanks for the help.

Expect $3K-4K from an independent who knows what they're doing... $5K-8K from an authorized Ferrari dealer-service center.

Tell us where you are located and maybe we can give you some recommendations for good shops.

Sorry, if you were on the West Coast I could make a recommendation. However, the major shouldn't cost much more than $3500. Good luck. I'm sure some Atlanta Ferrari guys can give you some tips. BTW, when I had my 89 328 I paid about $2500 for a major.

In the Dallas area a 30k runs anywhere from $2000 to $4000. The quote you got is way out of line. I hope it was at least from the dealership.

Did you get your original quote from Ferrari of Atlanta? If not, check with service manager Chris there.

An alternative in the area is Flashback Motorworks (www.flashbackmotorworks.com)

Or have your car brought to Huntsville... cars from as far as Memphis bring their cars here for major service where I have mine done. You'd still save money even after shipping both ways.
