Does anyone have any idea as to how many of the orginal PB's are still running as apposed to being in museums as static displays, I ask because the 312PB belonging to Irvine Laidlaw is coming to South Africa for a an historic race meeting. I am not too clued up on PB's but how many were made, none were sold to privateers from what I can understand.

I am really looking forward to hearing that flat 12 motor, 308Jack will agree with me when I say we are so starved of seeing racing Ferraris down here....maybe oneday Jim will bring 0854 back for a "visit".

    13 chassis have been made
0874, 0876, 0878, 0898 do not exist since they were crashed or renumbered and used for rebuilding other chassisnumbers.
    0880, 0882, 0884, 0886, 0888, 0890, 0892, 0894, 0896, and the replica 0900 built on spares are still existing today.
some of them like 0886 (Laidlaw) and 0888 (Stieger) are frequently raced in the historic challenge

the sound and performance of these 36 year old cars is incredible.

I recall one driven at FCA meets in the 70s/80s by Mr. Sachs.
    Possibly he still owns it?

Mr. Platzer: Here is a photo of 312 P(B) 0900 in the factory's showroom prior to them selling it to Luigi Chinetti Sr. Clearly NOT a replica. There was absolutely no point in the construction of a 312 P(B) replica at that time, as it took the factory until 1980 to sell off the last 312 P(B) that was still left (0888).

Peter Sachs owned #0894. After Sachs it briefly went to Albert Obrist. It has since been with Jim Jaeger in Ohio.

While I agree with you does the Factory recognise this car as an official car?

My understanding is that 0900, as Michael Platzer alluded, was a car built up out of spares and not a part of the original 'production run' nor bearing SF competition history in the years its brethren were campaigned by the factory. The use by the factory (once again) of the brass tag bearing 0900 would seem to point to this being the case. So, while not a replica because it was in fact assembled in house by Ferrari (as your photo illustrates), it appears to be something less than the equivalent of a T-car.

    Best,
    Dave

The 0900 existed the whole time. I have much info on this. The configuraton that All 623/012 chassis were sold in has varying degrees to do with their ultimate competition configuration. When you take 0898 (that was re-numbered as 0884) out of the sequence, 0900 is the next number. ALL type 623/012 312 P (B)s (0886-0900) are effectively "built from spares" I think it is the equivalent of a T-car. NOTHING MORE. All type 623/012 312 P(B)s (0886-0900) were restored, reconfigured, and re-constructed by Sport Auto Modena (on behalf of the factory) prior to being sold off to collectors.

Back to 360 Cs' question: There are ten surving 312 p(b).

0880. Lives in the USA with a very enthusiastic new owner who takes it to many vintage events. And drives it! Check out this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZzMGA1wQyoM

0882. Lives in Germany and gets exercised often in European events

0884. Lives in France. Last seen driving on the Victory by design series on Speed channel. (Alan De Cadanet driving)

Yeah, I haven't seen it out in a while. I saw that Michael Platzer posted a photograph of it being restored in 2002 at Sport Auto Modena. (who carried out the original restoration of the car in the 70's) The shop in now run by the sons of Gianni Diena and Aldo Silingardi. The finish quality of the 70's restorations (as I am sure the original finish while racing was) of these cars could only be described as horrible by todays standards.

I meant the 2002 restoration when the car was owned by John Bosch. The boys definitely don't have their father's skills.

Last time (autumn last year) I visited the shop it was still in pieces. But it will be the car to beat when it is finished. People will call it illegal when they see how fast a PB really can be.

Same happened with Paul's BBLM. He can even chase Laidlaw's PB with the BBLM, so let's see what happens when the PB is finished.

thank you for the pic. maybe 0900 is not a replica, but it was not one of the 312PB used by Ferrari for the world championship. do you know, when 0900 was completed ?
why did Ferrari agree to David Piper using 0900 again for his 330P4 (replica) ?

these are pics of john bosch´s car at sport auto modena in 2002. at the same time they restored a friend´s 250 GT Ellena 0697GT. the restoration seems to be very good, as the car won it´s class at the 60th anniversary concorso at fiorano.

Not only the 312PB is using chassis 0900, also the 330P4 built on spares by David Piper uses the same chassis number. as far as i know (but what do i know?) this was with permission of ferrari, as 0900 was an "unused" chassisnumber. if 0900 was officially used by ferrari for the 312PB, why would they agree to use that s/n again ?
