Fantastic photos Peter. Brings back memories Watkins Glen 1972 when I saw these cars race in anger.

I for one think that it is a massive shame that there hasn't been an outright victory at Le Mans for Ferrari in my lifetime.
I could not agree more though they did win from 1960 - 1965 by which time I was six I had high hopes for the 333 SP but alas it was not to be.
Wow-thanks! Agreed, but I see the efforts of Forghieri's testing with the Spazzaneve in the front. I'm betting that it'd have outperformed the Matras, Alfas and the Mirage. Sadly, we'll never know...

The picture of the 312 P(B) #0900 that was taken in the Ferrari factory showroom/waiting area was from October, 1977. Luigi Chinetti Sr. acquired the car in December, 1977.
Just a small update, I was lucky enough to meet Lord Laidlaw earlier this year, what a great guy, very enthusiastic about his Ferrari's and historic racing in general. His wife is also into racing, for a few years she campaigned a 250 SWB before recently moving over to a 275 GTB 6C. Am hoping the PB will return to the African sunshine in 2011, the sound of that flat 12 is pure magic.
During the Watkins Glen races in the 70s, the pilots had some signs on the helmets (not only Ferrari drivers) . They look like taped Roman numbers. Does anyone know the reason for these signs? We found them only during WG races.
