So very basically it is either a coil(rare as Brian said) or more likely a coil module. If it cannot be anything else should i just buy 2 modules? I have rang around and true to form Ferrari only sell the complete unit(coil and module) for about £320! However i have found a specialist that will sell the module for £48 each. Thanks for the p.m. Brian and ruling out the crank sensor. If it cannot be anything else i may as well buy the parts....

It can still be a connection problem or something one of us forgot or doesn't even know about yet. I really would comfirm it before buying parts.

I do have to say though, a module for 48 quid isn't a bad deal.

Will do brian, thanks for the advice...i will let you know how i get on. Worrying thing is my mechanic saw this problem on a 328 which recurred every several hundred miles and whenever he got his hands on the car he could not get it to fault, and so never got to the bottom of it. At least i can now try and point him in the right direction!

Finally some news. Firstly i found a 328 coil and amplifier module from a ferrari parts specialist on e-bay for £40!...i was the only bidder and got them for the sum of £46.5- a considerable saving on the £350 ferrari price. Flushed with success i drove the car to my mech about 6 miles away and sure enough as soon as the car hit traffic it cut to 4 again.Limped it there and was finally able to diagnose the front bank as the one at fault. So left it there all last week with my fingers crossed.Mech rings me up after swapping coils over and cannot get it to fault! New problem now though-a smell of petrol, fuel pump found to be leaking.New fuel pump ordered(a reasonable £86) and the new coil put on the rear bank and the one we think is good moved to the front bank.At the same time i ordered a new king lead, the price was only £27 so i thought it could be another weak link causing the miss.Anyway after about 6 short test drives and letting the car idle for 30 mins at a time he still could not get it to fault again. So it is fingers crossed time now-got the car back yesterday and had a good run in and out of traffic and no problem....I just hope that is it, all the contacts between coil and ecu and distributer have been cleaned...it works but we never proved the problem. Thanks for all the advice....just hope that is the end of it and i can get on enjoying her now!
