Hi everyone. As I wrote in another couple of posts I am checking a 328 GTS I am considering to buy. The A/C isn't working and the seller, a nice female friend of mine who isn't interested in cars*, wants to sell it as it is on a discount. The local Ferrari workshops can't make an estimate for the repair because anything can have failed and the issue can be fixed only after the inspection of the parts is done. In brief, could you please suggest me your worst case estimate for a repair, in order to discount it from the selling price? Thank you very much and all the best to you all! Nic
Umm, if the Ferrari dealer can't make an estimate without a thorough inspection, how could one of us do that? The only way to get a realistic figure is to pay for an inspection and get a written estimate, much as you would if you got a PPI (pre-purchase inspection) for any car you'd be interested in buying.
If you just want a number, $2500 discount is fair. That is the cost of another compressor, new drier, new expansion valve, clean flush the system, and recharge. No guaranty it will fix all the issues, but that will fix most issues.
I paid $ 600 for a new Sanden compressor and clutch . I also had all the lines and couplers replaced to accept the new refrigerant . I think I spent in total about $ 3-3.5 K . I had to have the compressor bracket modified in order for it to work. G
Classic Air. About 2500 bucks. All parts, best compressor, best condenser, new air handler. I did mine in an early 308 a couple of months ago and the difference is fantastic, it's so much better. Sent from my SM-G781U1 using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Does the 308 kit transfer directly to a 328? I looked at classic air and they just have a 308 kit. Probably does transfer, but wonder if any challenges.
No, it does not. The 328 uses a completely different condenser, mounted in a different location. The other components (compressor, evaporator, drier, expansion valve, etc) SHOULD fit OK though the hoses won't be correct due to the different condenser location. You could find a correct condenser and, I ASSUME, order the individual other parts from Classic air/fit hoses.
Sometimes they just need a shot of freon to get the pressure up so the internal switch can activate. That's what mine needs every few years.
Yep. Same here. A flush also helps to remove acidic oil. If the oil is yellowish to brown, it needs a flush.
I replaced mine with the GT Car part kit. About 3500 all in. My original compressor just froze solid. The advantages of new are it uses a lot less power, the compressor is barely noticeable when running, and it uses modern gas so it’s easy to recharge. But it does cost $$$ to fix
also The Sanden 5 piston has more efficient at idle speed but I hope you do not sit at idel much Glad you have the car back and fixed to your standard of excellence - proper way to begin new ownersship
