I recently have noticed after driving my 328 that I am getting a bit of what appears to be an oil leak coming from the engine near the area right behind the passenger seat, it's difficult to actually see where the leak is coming from. There is enough to produce a visible stream of smoke off the engine when at idle and running, however there is no large loss of oil evident. Anybody have an idea on the source and best course of action to fix? - I have heard that this might be the cam seal. I had regularly scheduled major service with belts performed on it six years ago and have driven problem free up until this recent dilemma. Thanks for the help.

Maybe post this in the Technical forum? Seems like you'd get more replies.

Cam seals or Timing cover seal.

Regardless, you will need a major service to repair. Oil leaks on that side of the motor are pricey.

Don't drive on it too much since oil might be getting on the belts and if they are 6 years old, you are 1 year over due to have them replaced.

Be very careful, oil may be coming from the cam belt drive pulley bearings. If they, the bearings, get to worn the belts can skip a tooth or more. Very bad!!!

It hit me this morning. It could also be your main crank seal.
