Anynone know this car? F-chatter's? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=157041&viewitem=&item=320206030882&_trksid=p3907.m29 Thanks Jon
If that is the same car Boston SportsCars has had on-consignment for almost a year now, its a good car. However, the price is pretty much the same as it was a year ago.
Good catch, Mike! It's definitely the same car. I compared the pictures from both ebay and BSC's website, and the paint wear on the plenum is identical. I was talking to Craig about this car at Tutto this summer. He said he thought it was a good car and didn't know why it wasn't selling. Anyway, if it's with FoNE now I'm sure you could call BSC and get their honest opinion of it.
Looks like the interior was just redyed. It wasn't all that clean when it was at BSC. It also has another 2K miles. I think someone bought it, drove it and traded it a FONE. Still a pretty car. Black/tan early GTS is the nicest look on the 328s. Just need to get rid of those disco door speakers and repair the alarm installation in the console. Not a bad deal, freshly serviced, in the mid $40Ks.
That was my feeling at the time as well, although cosmetically the car was/is terrific. No road rash or bodywork issues, and the interior is very nice. Considering the bulletproof nature of the 3.2 litre drivetrain, I'd classify it as a terrific driver with excellent service history.
Saw it in the show room yesterday. VERY pretty car. Looks outstanding. Couldn't tell you about mechanicals. My car is in there shop, I'll be stopping in regularly over the next week or 2. Let me know if I can do something for you while I'm there.
That's why they call it re-sale red. I do like em in Black, but high mileage and not being red make it a hard sell, regardless of condition.
Hey 328 owners Is 43k miles considered high for a 1987 car. Thats like 2000 per year...sounds low to me...to low...Suggests tampering. But what do I know.
It's high if you don't plan on driving a Ferrari but just want to collect them instead. Early last year I was interested in this 328 but was put off by its northeast location. I grew up in that part of the country and know what anti-ice solutions can do to thin sheet metal. If only the previous dealer had offered the same condition information as the current one I would probably have flown up for a personal inspection.
Seems low to me, but then my 308 has 84K miles on it I don't know why people are so hyper crazy about buying cars that have had the odometer disconnected. I wouldn't let 43K miles keep me from a good car (but I'd certainly still use it as a negotiation point.)
My 308 has 64K. If the mileage is too low, you fear to drive it. I would think 40K is in a sweet spot for that.
The mileage is actually pretty good for a car this age. I do not believe it was ever driven in New England winters - almost every F-car owner up here garages their cars permanently from early December until spring rains wash the roads thoroughly clean. If the undercarriage condition was a concern to anyone, BSC would have gladly put the car on a lift for any prospective buyers to look at the chassis and inspect the undercarriage for signs of rust or corrosion. Judging by the rockers and other parts of the car I inspected, I highly doubt the chassis had any issues. All 328s were made with Galvanized steel and had underbody rust protection from the factory. I had a chance to speak with the car's owner during a BSC 'Open House' event two years ago - this 328 was part of a garaged collection and saw limited use. The then-owner had taken delivery of a friend's 1960's Camaro, and needed garage space so the 328 went on-consignment. The owner seemed rather non-chalant about selling it - if it sold, great, if it didn't no big deal - he liked the car, but didn't 'love' it. Last time I talked to Darrin at BSC about the car, he was anxious to move it, but the price was set at the time by the car's owner who was looking around $43K for it. Now that the Dealership has it, they're looking for $46K+......you snooze, you lose!
Looks like a great first F-car for someone. Decent mileage, service history, no stories, don't-look-at-me color... Seems like a perfect buy for those warm January days!
It's about being near the coast. During the winter the ocean air is warmer than the inland air and we catch a break.
Thanks guys. The car is no longer on EBay. I guess someone wasn't snoozing this time! Certainly looked to be a nice car in the photos and description. Your posts confirmed that. Jon
I called Jesse at FoNE about the car, just because I was curious. It is in fact the same car as was at BSC, and they do now have a deposit it on it. Somebody in NY who is coming up to look at it this weekend. But he said he'd call me if that deal falls through. He said it was a nice car, but it does have one condition problem. The front bonnet has the usual bump it in where somebody forgot to press the ball before trying to close the bonnet, but worse than other cars, it's also got a paint crack at that same point.
I'd guess BSC didn't do much to promote the car - it was on their web site, and that was basically it. FoNE displayed it in their showroom and stuck in on eBay. Obviously some of us like black a lot more than red, so it was probably due to lack of exposure. Also, I do think those seats were dyed after BSC photographed the car. Most of the 328s that sell <$50K now seem to have re-dyed leather and/or higher mileage.
I was there today and didn't see a deposit tag...Hmm. Going back Thrsday or Friday. Let me know if you want more info/photos.
I saw a fair to less than fair condition car with what looked accurate milage. Drivers door panel leather looks like black paint speckeld on the leather from overspay on the outside panel. The front surface around the vents has had a poor wet sand job and shows. Im not sure what they want but I would think low $40's would work. If you really want an outstanding condition car, this is not. If I bought the car and did not notice these things then tried to sell it, the next notice and the price would have to reflect such.
