So here's a new one for my otherwise very healthy 328 which I usually drive 3-5x/wk but have not in the last week or so. Started fine and after a few minutes the idle began 'breathing' between normal idle and a low of ~400rpm, at which point she threatened to stall and finally did. I drove around the block (driving is fine) for 5', got her up to temp, and she still does it, in N or in gear w.clutch in (but not while in gear).

The only thing I have done recently is shoot some belt dressing on the acc belt, which even w.a little overspray I wouldn't expect to have any effect.

    What could be going on?

    Bad gas?

Fill her up with the good stuff and toss in the recommended dosage of Chevron Techron fuel injector cleaner. Then perform an "Italian tune-up" on a safe section of highway.

Is it an unmodified euro version 328, or has some form of "Lambda" control been added (i.e., do you have an O2 sensor in the exhaust stream an an added ECU/plumbing)?

Fuse blown on the frequency valve relay?

Look under the right side metal panel in the trunk.

A few of the relays have ATC (blade type) fuses on top of them.

Perhaps one is blown or corroded.

Also happens after a wash if water gets down in there...

Good question Steve. I'm pretty sure it's been modified to conform (there's something along a hose my wrench identified as being part of emissions control) though I'm not sure what it is.

No wash/water any time recently and all fuses are in tact.

I went for a 20' drive to dinner and upon arrival everything was normal, as was the return. Hmmm....

If modified to have some Lambda control, it would definitely have more opportunities (and possible explanations) for getting a Gremlin that comes and goes. Give another shout if you get further symptoms, but we'll hope that we don't hear from you ;)
