    Hi everyone,

I purchased this cable (#106745) from Ebay in January 2010 as a spare clutch cable for my 328, and upon researching the forum this weekend in preparation it appears this is not the correct cable (i.e. label and enclosed cable don't match). The sheathed/covered section measures about 46 inches, and I've enclosed pictures of the collet end. Does this look familiar (is it perhaps an accelerator cable)? Does anyone know what I actually have?

    Thanks (as always!)

    Carl

P.S. Once I finish I will document this procedure as well.

It does look like a throttle cable.

I had to replace clutch cable several years ago. When it broke, I heard it PING like a piano wire breaking. The replacement was much longer. Ran from the actual clutch peddle , under the car. The kit came with new pulleys also if I remember correctly.

I'm surprised that even at 46 inches it is a throttle cable for a 328 although I haven't replaced one. Just seems that is is longer from the pedal to the throttle body.

Hello, and thanks to everyone for their input. I just wanted to post follow-up: I purchased a new clutch cable and took images of both; clearly this is not a clutch cable but perhaps an accelerator cable? In any event, if anyone needs an article on clutch cable replacement (to supplement the excellent posts already on FC), send me a PM.

Carl, I'd love to have your clutch cable replacement write up to add to my collection of "Carl Rose How To's." I want to personally thank you for all of the great write ups you have provided to the 3x8 community over the years. The vast majority of projects that I've attempted on my 328 start with a review of one of your excellent tutorials. Keep up the great work!

    Carl,
I changed mine a few years ago, but I am sure that your documentation of it would be great.

When I was under the car, I thought it was the parking brake cable at first, until my friend said, "Uh, that's your clutch cable!"

Easy job except for the frozen nut at the front of the cable tube, had to carefully cut off to remove. I have also appreciated your collection of write ups for many other procedures, thank you. Some adjustment also possible if need be, quite a few threads about that here.
