Anyone here changed the vertical cable attached to the door handle on a 328? When changing out the door speakers this past week, i noticed its pretty well frayed, and wanted to replace it before it finally snapped... its pretty tight in there, wanted to see if anyone had done it, and if there was any trick to it...
No trick..just a simple pain in the butt. Setting the tension will drive anybody nuts..best to have a long shanke needle nose pliers and a helper to hold tension while you tighten the nut. Oh..and make sure you have breath mints available..close quarters with 2 set of hands in there..
There are two types, the early and later where the latch handle is on the end of the armrest. I can only comment on the later but the door end of the cable is easy to remove by flipping up the white plastic clip, so its best to disconnect here, and then disconnect from the handle, which is pretty fiddly. If you mis-route the cable, when you open the window fully, it will snag the cable and the door will open! (Dont ask how I know )
