    All,
I'm looking for some door panel advice. I've done numerous searches and found threads on 308's but very little on 328's.

I'm in the midst of a total interior restoration. Seats have been stripped and re-dyed, replacing the NASTY rear deck fabric with color matched vinyl and I just received my Wilton Wool III from GAHH that is absolutely superb.
Where I'm struggling now is to figure out what to do about the door speakers. The PO did an amazing job with the 6.5" Alpine speaker installation. But as you can see from the photos, the new W.Wool has a rubber backing that is not as open as the original wool carpets.

Have any of you had to deal with this? Do I go 308 style with a leather insert? Move the speaker out and use a cover. I'm totally frustrated that I've done a total interior restoration and THIS is what stumps me.

    Appreciate any thoughts.

    Craig

The First thought I had ..please understand this just came to me ..but what about carefully using a perforation wheel or something like that and make the holes using a image of the speaker as a guide ..like I said maybe crazy but it came to me and figured I share ..it may spark some good thoughts /posts

Does the backing separate from the carpet? Maybe you could cut out a 6.5" circle of the backing only, leaving the front carpet intact.
ps. if you are going to toss the old ones let me know, I would take them as the PO of my 328 cut holes for the speakers and I'd like to return to the stock look.

No, that was the first thing I thought myself. It's like the carpet was grown in the rubber base (looks like sod grass).

While your in there, you might want to replace those speakers with a set of Focals , I had both Alpine / Infinity , I now have a ful set of Focal 6.5 / 4.0 and the tweets, they sound insane to say the least !!

Any particular model you recommend? I figure I have the minority opinion on this, but I enjoy my music while driving with the top off!

Whatever the top of their line is, 6.5 s and you can fit 4.0 s in each door, as well as the tweeters , I dont know the model numbers / names, any high end car audio shop can point you in the right direction, you will need a clean 4 channel amplifier , mine is 75 watts clean x 4 channels. and I dont even remember what amp Im using, it may be an alpine , I will look the next time Im in my shop.

Realizing that it’s a completely different design of the panel, I did my speaker covers on my 308 QV in acoustic fabric, in response to your question.
