328 embossed headrest whcih cars had this

Mine's an 87 (black interior) and has those

 

My '87 has the horses.

I suspect it's how you can tell original from aftermarket seat covers.

 

Mine's a late 87 (one of the last) and does NOT have them (tan interior). However, mine does have the interior update that happened mid-87: Black-colored (not interior colored) armrests, updated interior door latch mechanism. I wonder if the embossed headrests happened sometime around then?

Overall car seems to be reasonably priced as long as it doesn't have any carfax history...

 

#78366, 88-1/2, does have them.

 

I have an '86 328 GTS, the embossing is there.

 

My '82 GTS has the embossing.

 

sounds like most of them have the horse headrests, mabe there were a few that left the factory without them, because none were available at the time of completion. My '88 GTS with a black interior has them, as well as horses on the 4 pull knobs on the targa top cover.

Mine is 73651--they must have had a run on horsey-stamped leather pieces that week! Either that or the stamper guy was out sick!

I think this INCREASES the value since it's that much rarer. Kind of like with coins that are struck weird!

 

My '86 GTS, #65277, does not have them.

 

I think the issue may be that the horses fade over time. My 87 67523 has them, but you have to look closely to see that they're there.

 

'86 has them also, but seats have been redone by previous owner

 

My 86 has them, it adds a real nice touch to the interior imo, didn't know some cars never had them

Mine are also kind of faint - lightly embossed. You do have to look for them.

 

Okay, I looked again and I DO have them! They are just hard to see on my chocolate brown leather seats. I imagine the embossing on black leather would be similarly subtle, especially with the passage of time.

My '87 has them (red/tan #71621). Except they keep getting dirty from my greasy hair. No, that's not true. I made that up.

 

My two 89's had them as well as both of my early and late 87's.

For what it's worth to anyone interested, I sold it to the current owner for $45k last October. He put 2k miles on it and did the major and is asking the same $$. This car had a couple small issues (like all of them), but he seems to have taken care of them. Definitely a fair price for a good car. I drove it every day and it ran better when I sold than when I bought it.

And just to stay on topic, I like the embossed horse. It adds a nice little finishing touch.

 

So then the question is: how do you re-cover your seats without losing the horse?

 

You dont recover the headrest. It seldom, if ever needs it.

My '87 GTB(S/N 66013) has the logo on the headrest. Nice touch to a great interior.
