    Here is what it does:

I start it up and it revs to 1200 and then comes down to 700 after a minute or so. ( normal )
When I put it in gear it loads Ok for 1st but when I put it in 2nd it stalls when I give it the gas under load.
Once you are going along from 35-55 MPH it appears OK. But when I stop it will rev back up to 1300 or
so and you have to load it in gear to make the revs come down to 700. You have to play with the throttle
to get it going from stop after that.

I checked the plugs and they look OK ( almost new ) I did see a few were a little wet from fuel.
I unplugged the connector at the black box on the other side of the throttle body and cleaned the pins.

All of this appears to have done nothing to help the problem.

It there anything, you can think of , that I can do.

Check the plug extenders. They are NOTORIOUS for shorting out. Look for any carbon tracking or small black pinholes that appear to have melted through. A quick fix/test is to coat any questionable ones with JB Weld. I've run with 2 JB Weld coated extenders for a few years now.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Rich,

Sorry to just have a moment here - does the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) on the intake "click" when moved off idle position? (i.e. is the FI system recognizing that the engine is now accelerating?) A frequent weak spot is also the ECU protection relay (located alongside the Jetronic FI computer). Check the 10A fuse or consider replacing (it's a 928 part).

Drop me a line at [email protected] & I'll mail you pictorial on Jetronic ECU.

Note however as has already been posted the ignition wires & extenders are probably much more likely culprits.

    Best,

    :) Carl

the idle speeds seem off also. The spec for a USA 328 warm idle is 1000 +/- 100. Fast idle tends to be more like 1600-1800.
'course, if you are going by the tach, accuracy is questionable. Is the car idling smoothly? What happens if you blip the throttle?

to check spark if you don't have an inductive timing light, then a cheapo spark tester like this one will help:
    http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=4424
In fact, they can be better than a timing light because the plug well boot/cap will be off, and you can see arcing through the extenders if it's dark enough.

you can get it/them at any auto parts place. Just make sure you wrap the exposed metal shaft in electrical tape so spark won't arc from there to a gnd.

Is the idle popping up to 1300 consistent? e.g. once you get the car up to temps, is the idle always higher? That suggests the lamba circuit is compensating for a mixture too rich due to unburned fuel from the non-firing cylinder(s).

how long have you had the car, how many miles are on it, and has it always behaved like this?

When my car is idling cold, it is 1100. After some spirited highway driving, it idles at 1300-1400. No missing at all, but a little lively while sitting at stop lights. Any recommendations?
