Does anyone have a minimum thickness number for an 87 328 flywheel? I had a high pedal engagement and thought my clutch was worn. I'm still going to replace it, but the old pressure disk wasn't worn excessively. I have had the flywheel resurfaced, but want to be sure it's in specs before re-installing.
As they usually do, they only specify the maximum amount of material to be removed from the 328 flywheel (from the 308QV/328 WSM): Image Unavailable, Please Login So your next question is: "What is the nominal thickness of a new 328 flywheel?" -- which Verell posted here: https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/posts/134871815 as 16mm -- so 15.2mm minimum thickness.
Haha, yes Steve, you are having my conversation for me. I did measure my driven plates. New is 9.29mm, old is 7.75, so a good bit of difference, though neither fits the above spec. Actually, the old plate is still in spec. It is oil soaked though, so not going back on.
Your old driving plate thickness looks sort of OKish still (but sounds like you need a fresh one anyway). Have you been adjusting the clutch mechanism and pedal height as shown in Section E of the 308QV/328 WSM? Do you need a copy?
Thanks Steve.I do have a copy. Peddle height wasn't the issue. I had adjusted that to brake pedal height. The issue was that the clutch was only engaging very near the top of the pedal range, typically indicating a worn clutch. I don't have a lot of records form previous owners, so I'm not sure if the flywheel has been cut previously or not. The car is at 50,000 miles, so it could be either way.
