I was very impressed by the 328 smoothness of use at low RPM: i always use just 1-3-5 gears in common relaxing guide, at least upwards. I use 2nd and 4th gear just when i want to feel the full car performances or when climbing an hill (it means almost never).

It's just a strange idea i have or does everyone else here do the same?

    ciao

I use all gears as it sounds best and love to change gears up and down. When the oil is cold however most use just 1 - 3 -5 since 2 and 4 are than real hard to reach, especially 2. For 308's and Mondials this same situation.

Torque is sufficient for just using 1-3-5 but why not using 2 and 4 as well, must be better for the clutch as well.

Yes, Alfer: in a sport car like the 328 you must use all gears to enjoy the car along a track on just in sporty driving mode (obviously), but when i'm in traffic or i just want to see the landscape and talk with the passenger, i think the 2nd and 4th gear are just a waste of time as the engine does not need them to move the car in every situation. Yes, the 2nd gear is prohibited (better avoiding its use) when the gearbox oil is cold.

I personally use all gears in every car I've owned even though it's usually not really necessary. I see nothing wrong with skipping gears as long as the engine is still getting revved high enough occasionally to keep it in tune. While the 3x8 engine has plenty of low end torque I don't think it really likes putting around below 2k rpm for too long.

Yes, I visited the Ferrari factory for the first time in 1971, when i was 9 years old. You can use just 1, 3, 5 gears and the 328 will perfectly work, but just if you use all gears you can fully enjoy the car, of course.

When I had my GT4, I saw in-car footage of Gerhard Berger in a F1 Ferrari changing down from top gear (6th, I think in those days) to 1st going into a hairpin - he cycled through all the gears in about 1.5s. From then on, I did the demon late brake as often as I could, heel toeing down through all 5 gears - Yeeha!
