328 gearing change...

I don't know if this has bantered about before..came up dry on a search. I was out for a long drive today (200 miles) and did alot of shifting through straights, twists, hills, etc. Couldn't help wishing the 328 was a 6-speed. Has anyone heard of altering the ratios to get a better spread, especially from 2-5. At this point I nearly always skip 2nd and go directly from 1st to 3rd..seems that with a little tweaking(easier said than done, I'm sure), alot more can be gained on the top end cruising speed.

Any thoughts or experiences?
