Are the posts toward the rear of the car or the front?
In my 308 they are towards the rear but I can't prove that is the correct position. I would say it makes sense because it puts them further from the battery cover which is metal and could cause a short circuit.
I have a 328. The posts and hold-down clamp are nearer the nose of the car. You want an MT34R, I believe, so that the terminals are in the OEM positions (reversed from on a 'normal' battery). 328 GTB would have the same battery arrangement, fyi.
Good question! Not that it matters, but there is one picture in the Owner's Manual that shows the terminals towards the front of the car. Mine is "incorrect", too. If you look at the picture below, it makes sense that it should be in the front - the positive cable would have less of a bend. The only way I could remedy the situation would be to get a new battery with the terminals reversed. ..Next time. -Steve Image Unavailable, Please Login
The posts to the rear is correct I think. The battery cover will hit the terminals if they are in the front. Then we have a short and a possible fire. The battery cover is steel i think( I don't have one) but just had one made out of 1/4" aluminum. I think it should have been thinner and possibly steel. Can anyone confirm the thickness and material used from factory?
Attached are pictures of 328 battery installation. Posts are facing rear. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
