I am curious as my 328 GTS does not have a spare wheel in the front bonnet, would this affect the handling of the car?
Should I go out and get one?

I seriously doubt it would make any difference. The 328 spare is a high pressure "donut" and couldn't weigh more than 12-14 pounds, perhaps a bit more.

On the 308 series that had a full size spare (which to me, seemed to weigh considerably more (owned both cars), I have heard under track conditions, that drivers did notice a bit more understeer, after removal of the spare.

Personally, I would get one just to keep the car "complete". At the very least, I would start carrying a couple of those tire inflator/sealer aerosol cans. I have BOTH in my 328. Just gives me options...short of immediately calling a flat bed.

I have often thought about this too as my 328 gets light infront at speed, as if there is not enough downforce in front. However i dont notice any difference with or without my full size spare. I tend to leave it out with the jack and the tools to make the car lighter with a perceived 1/100 th's of a second faster in 0 -100 accceleration :) make that 2/100 th's with the fuel tank nearly empty, no shoes, and after me taking a dump :)

I do believe that its presence is essential for the correct working of the front crumple zone in a head on collision and would advise you to get it for this and completeness, and for the day you need it, reasons.

I dont like the cans of blowjob etc as they stuff up your balancing.

My 86 has a full size on std wheel. Always keep it in, have driven without once, felt light up front. I think the full spare has enough weight to matter, especially that far up front and if you're, ahmmm, having fun its safer.

    Hi jaturon,
Hank (farang) in Los Angeles. I don't know about doing track days but, a normal day out driving followed by a flat tire - and you'll be "handling" your cell phone while calling for the flat bed tow truck!

Here's what I did. When I got my 92 Mondial Cab. it didn't have a spare. I bought a "space saver" spare from a 308 GT4 with a proper spacer. Now, I'm covered - and my car won't be made a cripple in the case of a flat.
    Good luck & cheers, Hank

Sure thing!! When I order my food to be cooked "Bangkok style", they ask if I have been to Thailand. Yes, I spent 8 weeks in your beautiful country filming an NBC movie "Last Flight Out" - - late 80s.

Careful - we both love Ferraris and Thai food - - - we'll be talking lots!

Do you agree with me regarding Jaturon's spare tire situation?

Cheers, Hank (OK - Hang) :)

Ok, If you want to be picky about it.... Hi HanK.
You were here in the late 80's. That's when I was back in the states in Bakersfield, yes I know, Bakersfield.
Jaturon just crying out because the spare tire did not come with the car when he bought it.

By the way, did you visit Patpong st. when you were here? You don't have to give all the details if you don't want to, I understand....lol

    Hey P,
Hang here - I'm sure you were a youngster at the time you were in Bakersfield. I did see a recent picture of you and your beautiful wife, so I assume that your time here in the USA, was as a kid with family.

Now, about Patpong - we were staying at that huge complex - Jomtienne City (I know, spelling is wrong) for about 6 weeks. PARTY TIME!!! Thank God, I was married then, or I'd probably be dead now.

I can't tell you how many times I have thought about taking a trip back. It almost happened recently, when I was with my lovely Thai girlfriend but, that's over now - - I would still like to take that trip. Anymore info will fall into the "PM" mode.

We'll talk more, I'm sure - Cheers, Hang

Sorry can't drive with you this weekend.

    Hank,
Glad you enjoyed our beautiful country.
Haven't you noticed that 'Patpong' asked about 'Patpong street'?!!!!!
Be careful, he even named himself after the famous street.

    Continued cheers, Hank

    I like that...

You're still up, Hank. It is near midnight there, isn't it.
Yes, I was in college when I was in Bakersfield then. Love LA more though. I didn't see much Ferrari when I was there. Only at the dealers.
Love your Mondial convertible. There are only one or two open top Mondial in Thailand. I think it's best form for the Mondial. Do you guys in LA get together for a drive.?

Jaturon, Sorry you couldn't be here this weekend. I was about to ask you to go for a drive in the morning. Well then, see you on the 18th at the anual party...

    Hi P,
You can emagine, in a city like LA, with all $s and Fcars around, there's lots of driving adventures available. We have shows, or at least places to get together to show, every weekend.
You guys in Bangkok also seem to be very active. - Hey, did I mention the fact that your 308 is probably the finest that I've ever seen.? Well, if I didn't, it is!.
    Cheers, Hank
