Hey guys (& gals), I'm looking to jump into the 328 world and have found a car that looks interesting to me. From what I'm told, the car comes from NH so I'm hoping someone out there recognizes it and can share some details. It looks clean but I'm not sure the price given the miles. I"m doing due diligence and will get a PPI if it makes sense.

    VIN is ZFFXA20A0H0067811

    Thanks in advance!!

BTW I've posted a similar request in the New England Section too

Peter's a good guy, you should have no problems.

Always get a PPI, just good insurance

Looks like a nice car at a good price, but I think a PPI is always a good idea.

At least put the car up on a rack so you can see oil leaks, collapsed motor mounts, brake and suspension wear, etc, that you just can't see without getting underneath. Almost all these cars seem to need something due to age and/or mileage, which is OK, but you don't want to get blindsided.

Also, ask what exactly is "recent" with regard to the major service? If you subscribe to the 3 year timing belt change interval, time between services goes by pretty fast.

    Just my $0.02

There was a black on black sold at FONE 2 years ago or so- No idea if this is the same car but if so I do know they did a bunch of service on it...

Bought a 308 from Peter 8 years ago, sold me my dream car. I had Bill Pollard check it out for me before the purchase. He's one of the best and he a neighbor of Peter's. I think his company is called Sport Auto. He did a very thorough job for me. Good luck!

KV: I have S/n 68487 and the builders were on a hot streak. Check out the shifter shaft seals and get the full PPI including leakdown as others have advised. Good luck

Peter is a great guy. Bought my 328 from him as well. Bill did my PPI and major. Not too happy with the major and still have to get back from him on the money he owes me.

Apart from the hideous color of the parcel shelf, the car looks great! Having no engine pics though is a flag for me, although a recent major service indicates otherwise. Definitely have someone inspect the car for you.

Also bought a 328 from Peter at Forza and had Bill Pollard at Sport Auto do the PPI and then a major. They are the best. Both are honest and easy to deal with and can and will answer any questions you may have. The car was and is exactly as Peter described and it has run great ever since the major, not even a leak!

Nice car. That one was on my short list before I ended up figuring out that I fit better in a GTB and bought my '77 308 GTB. Good luck.

Pete Sweeney is a HELL of a good and honest man. Bill Pollard did the PPI on my 308 back in July of 2001! Both stand up guys.

    KV,

You don't say where you are from, or list where you live, so I'll say what I always say when people are considering buying a collector car -- If you can afford the car, you can afford a couple of hundred dollars to hop on a plan or drive if you're close enough to go see the car in person. That is no substitute for a PPI, especially if you are not an experienced mechanic yourself. But the best of all worlds would be to get there when the PPI is being performed so that the mechanic who is going over the car can show you everything that is wrong with it (and it is a virtual guarantee that on a 25 year old car, there will always be something that needs to be taken care of).

When I bought my '86 328 GTS from an F-Chatter in Arkansas, I flew down there, rented a car and drove a couple of hours to go see it in person. The few hundred dollars I spent was well worth it for a variety of reasons. There is no substitute for getting behind the wheel of the car and driving it yourself, taking the time to look at everything including all of the gear/books/spares/etc. that may be included in the deal.

I know that plenty of folks here have bought cars sight unseen, and just relied on pictures and PPIs, and have been very satisfied. But IMHO, it is worth taking the time and spending a couple of bucks to go see the car in person. YMMV, but that's my $.02.

I live in NH and have talked to them about the car. They're a couple of hours away so no problem getting down to have a look see. The weather up here hasn't been the greatest so I'd want a window of 3-4 days when I can get a PPI done, drive the car and make a decision. When I was told the car hailed from NH, I figured someone from this group might have been able to connnect the dots.

Thanks for all the great information though!

I would suggest that you contact Stephan at RPM, RPM is a family-owned restoration shop in Vergennes, Vermont that sells and services classic sports cars, specializing in Ferrari and Porsche. They may have some insight.

Search RPM on the web where you will find their email address.

    Good Luck.
