In this restoration, the horse is "raised" but in the original seats it was embossed. It looks good like this, more modern for sure.

Dang, I didn't catch that! I'm a sticker for originality, but I can live with this one.

I would too. Although if you wanted you could probably send Matt the headrests and have them redone with the embossing.

    A few updates.

I received the front grille back from a refinishing shop, who took all the pits out of the leading edges as well as the cavalino, polished out all the stains, and the entire unit is going to the anodizers tomorrow for the matte finish. I almost hate to do it as it is so shiny now.

I also FINALLY found a workable silver wrinkle/crinkle finish for the throttle intake body and the plenum! I could find no supplier of paint out the can type, but was able to locate a powdercoat silver that did the job. For those with powdercoating systems and want to do this, shoot me an email. It's a Hotcoat powder. Here are some pics of the throttle body after powdercoating and a close-up of the wrinkle effect. I went through two other powders before I found the correct one. The other two were grey and bare metal looking.

And on the most exciting note, I am having the car dropped back at the house tomorrow afternoon (weather permitting) from the body shop! They are all done, except for the final wet sanding and polishing, which they want to wait until I get it all back together in case I scratch the clear coat. And yes, it has a clear coat....about 6 of them! ;)

pics of that and the plenum powdercoating to come tomorrow.

Woo-Hoo! Got the car back today. Too bad I was too busy with kids and work to do anything with it. It's going to need a good cleaning with the sanding dust that's settled in a few spots, then I start putting it all back together.....I hope! ;)

The car then goes back for a final wet-sand and polish. Doing it that way in case I scratch something reassembling it. Plus it gives the clear a month or so to cure.

Never mind all those plastic toys around it; it gets moved to its own section of the garage tomorrow. :)

I'll bet your car would be fast as Hell right now with all that weight removed :) Of course you'd have to have the engine back in!

Were you able to remove the interior trim under and and around the rear window without removing the glass?

    Heh-heh. ;)

And no on the rear glass; it was just too scary to try and remove it. I left it in place and rolled the seal up along the external surface to repaint the surround.

I finally got to work on it a bit the past few days. It looks like it is going to take a LOT longer to put it all back together than to take it apart, if the past few days are any indication.

Last night I reassembled the headlight assemblies and had to get them all adjusted. The left light was set perfectly just how I bolted it on. The right took about 15 different readjustments of the pivot bolt and then manually raising and lowering the light to check the swing of it. Finally got it.

Then had to set up the locking mechanisms for the hood and get the hood back on. I made sure to make sure they latches were releasing freely with the release cable, as I've had a trunk close on another car that wasn't set up right, and had to drill the lock out. No room for anything like that to happen on this car!

I hope tomorrow evening to get the rest of the front end done.

I was able to remove the glass (well, not me, the shop) without problems. They did say they had to be very, very carefull ...
I didn't remove the engine and didn't redo the leather (wasn't necessary), but will have new carpeting and some other minor things like new rubber on the doors and windows. I hope to have the car back in a couple of weeks.

During this week I'll restore the window mechanisms. Since I couldn't find any help for this procedure on a 328 I will take many pictures and maybe write a short summary. Anyone here done that ?

I wish I could, but I haven't been able to do a dang thing on the car as I've been working and traveling! ;)

Should get some done this evening finally.

Oh, I did get the door panels back. All fixed now. :)

And you want inspiration, go check out Newman's job! :)

Working does cost a lot of free time. ;) Travelling is nice though.

Can you help me find Newman´s thread by posting it?

Thanks! I also reallly like the job you´re doing on yours.

I didn´t do the interior. I like the patina. ;)

I don´t have recent (good) pictures. Only these (below) from work in progress. As you may have noticed, the screws from the doorpanels needed fitting. Also the struds from the enginecover have been replaced. Re-fitting the rear lid is a three man job and quite a fiddle.

The car is in the loving care the dutch Ferrari importer ¨Kroymans Ferrari¨ for the final technical detailing, 4 new tyres. The finishing touches. :)

I hope to have it before the end of this month. I´ll take some nicer pictures.

    Regards,

    Jeffrey

Got to where I've cut down and test fit some of the carpet pieces. I'm beginning to think that this will be the easiest and fasted carpet replacement that I've ever done. For one, I have the original carpet sections to use as templates to perfectly pre-cut the new sections to. Secondly, the 328 doesn't have an many humps and curves in the carpeting section as many British cars I've done, so not a lot of nipping the carpets to get them to lay smooth. And lastly, the quality of these carpets is so much better than anything I've previously worked with. I can push and bend it around surfaces and there's no wrinkling or distorting.

Of course, as soon as I say this I'm sure I've jinxed myself. The second I go to spray adhesive it'll not lay down like it should or something. ;)

And don't ask what the crowbar is used for. ;)

Well, managed to work some, but nearly as much as I would have liked this weekend on the car.

I completed the front and rear sections of the body (bumpers lights, front hood, all 4 hood and trunk release cables set up and working)

Managed to get all of the carpeting down, as well as the rear shelf, and all the brackets and studs associated with that.

    The seatbelts are back in

The rear quarter windows are back in.

Door closing and locking mechanisms in place on left door.

Threshold plates glues in on both sides.

Tomorrow I hope to get home early and get the window grilles in, and reinstall the dashboard and center consoles.

After working with the silicone for the seals along the window trim, I starting to contemplate putting the windshield in myself. Anyone here done that?

OK, got a few pics. I've made some progress, but I've hit a wall again with finding the time to work on it. Work's been nuts, and kid’s baseball games every night plus the big church fair this weekend. Still, I am getting an hour here and there to work on it. The only things left in the interior are the right door panel and handle assembly, the dash, the windscreen pillars and sun visor units, and then plop the seats in.

Yeah, that sounds easy, but if the rest of the stuff is any indication, I'll put something back together incorrectly and have to take it apart again and get it right! ;)
