I had lunch w/ another 328 owner today, and it appears our light stalks function differently. On my car, I move the stalk down one click to turn on the parking lights, then twist the knob on the end to turn on and raise the headlights. Another click down gives me high beams. His works differently.

To use my fog lights, I turn on the switch on the center console, and they come on if I'm using low beams. If I use high beams, the fogs turn off. His fogs turn on with high beams.

    How does yours work?

    On mine:

    stalk up == lights off

stalk middle == parking lights/low beams (rotated)

stalk low = parking lights/high beams (rotated)

My fog lights work in both the stalk low or middle positions, if the console switch is on.

I'll check that tonight, but I'm pretty sure I'm correct.

T-man, do you have twist the end of the stalk to get the headlights on?

    On mine:

stalk up = parking lights only (rotated)

The other two positions are the same as yours. Are you sure you can't turn on your parking lights in the "stalk up" position?

And the console switch turns on only the parking lights, front and rear; the side-markers and dashboard lights stay off. Only in the "stalk up" position do the side-markers and dashboard lights go on with the parking lights.

Oops, I turn out to be full of it.

Stalk not rotated == off, all positions

Stalk up, rotated == parking lights
Stalk middle, rotated == low beams
Stalk low, rotated == high beams

If the fog lamp switch is on, I get fog lamps with the stalk in any position and rotated on. If the stalk is rotated off, the fog lamps are off also.

I'm like Tillman, full of it.

Mine works just like his, including the fog lights. No rotating, no lights.

Had to stop and think about it for a minute, but just to be sure I went for a drive. An hour later (it's a nice night for a drive) I can report that mine work just as Tillman's and jimpo1. I'll have to check some other threads and mabe I can find another excuse to go for another drive, though the "just for the fun of it" works a lot of the time.

Manual reads as Jim and Tillman describe. Rotate stalk "Parking lights and number plate". One position down, lights come up and low beams on, Two positions down, lights are still up and high beams are on. Just took my stalk apart to try and repair. Parking lights were staying on no matter which way the stalk was roatated.

Ours works exactly as Tillman describes.

Its very exciting when you have on-coming traffic and you flick the lever up to the middle position to dip your headlights only to find that you've flicked them up to the top position and your headlights turn off and retract. ARrrrggghhhh!!!!
