OK....... we all know that pre-1988.5 cars had concave wheels and non-ABS brakes.
We also know that post-1988.5 cars had suspension changes, convex wheels and ABS brakes.

But............. What about the cars such as those destined for Australia that had the improved suspension geometry and convex wheels, but NO ABS fitted. We called them "ABS ready". (Dumb name as you were never going to retro fit it later anyway).

Was this combination exclusive to Australia or did other countries get this set up too?

Does anyone have any idea how many of these cars were built? I know that we got 152 328's in total from 1986-1989 but have no breakdown on the years, thus no idea on how many of these came with that arrangement.

Did other countries have this as a transitional model?

As Australia is such a small market for these cars, there may have been compliancing and/or testing issues for the ABS system. Therefore it may have been easier to delete this option.

Any info on this would be appreciated.

    Regards.........

    Bob.

We got those cars too until 1989. That year all US 328s had ABS. As I understand it, ABS remained optional in Europe.

OK...... so late 1988 cars in the USA were speced like that? If so, it was a transitional model in the US.

Do we know what serial number represented the first 1989 US ABS equipt car?
    Thanks as always.....

If memory serves, it is around 78800 but Rifledriver should have something more exact.

Somewhere around 78835 or so and every US car after. That is just one of many questions I am working on answering. I do know that 76626, an EU car did have ABS. The owner showed some pictures of it here and you could plainly see the ABS style brake reservior. What we do not know is which cars after that did not have it.

I am not sure I understood your post. Did you say your 79844 does not have ABS? Not all of my materials are here so I cannot look it up but I thought I had heard AUS cars did not come with ABS.

That's correct..... My car and all Aussie delivered cars do not have ABS. It was not even an option here.
There must have been only a small number like this in the US.

The first picture shows 76626 with the ABS brake reservior. The second is a picture of 60455 with the standard reservior.

Ferrari documents show that is when the susp changes happened (76626) but were not specific if that was when ABS was installed as well. This answered that question.

    Brian,
Do you know how many cars after 76625 still had the old suspension? I know GTB 76632 was one and I believe there is also a US GTS car as well.
