1988 /328 turning over real good but not firing run good a week ago is there anything I can look for for a start Thank you
Pay particular attention to the electrical connections to the fuel pump. Open up the access panel in the passenger footwell and check the fuse panel. Look for blown fuses and, in particular, burnt or blackened connections. Good luck, Alan N.J.
I suspect it's either the connection to the fuel pump, or the fuel pump itself. The way to check is to spray a healthy amount of starter fluid into the fuel distributor housing below the air filter. Then start the car. If the engine fires up for about 5 seconds and then dies, then it's the fuel pump or fuel fuse connection.
An even easier way to get a first look at the fuel pump operation is to unplug the safety switch and turn the key "on" = you should hear the fuel pump run/buzz. If it doesn't, then you know you need to dig deeper into it.
I cleaned the big red ground plug and it started but running rough for 10 sec and stopped no response to the gas pedal I will check fuse and relay next for the fuel pump
Next step is to check the electrical feed to the fuel pump. Check those relays, fuses and connectors in the passenger footwell.
Remove the fuel pump relay, and use a jumper wire to connect the metal 30 female terminal in the relay socket to the metal 87 female terminal in the relay socket like this: Image Unavailable, Please Login The fuel pump should run even with the key "off": If the fuel pump doesn't run = either bad fuel pump or wiring problem at the fuel pump or fried connection as shown in post #13 of this thread - https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/328-fuel-pump.164315 If the fuel pump does run, put a different ...113 relay in the fuel pump relay position and a different ...101 relay in the start injector relay position, and redo the safety switch test.
Measure the voltage at pin 30 of the relay in Steve's message above. IF you have 12V there, and shorting it to pin 87 like Steve said above AND the fuel pump does not run, then it's a bad fuel pump. The End.
