Since this car is local to NY I was wondering if anyone knows anything about it. Thanks. Ron http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1989-Ferrari-328-GTS-Euro-Spec-LOW-RESERVE_W0QQitemZ200224087426QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item200224087426&
I don't know anything about this car other than what I saw in the photos and seller's description in the ebay listing. To me, the two red flags that pop out are the Eurospec/gray market status of this car. Anyone buying it better check that the DOT/EPA paperwork is in order or this could be a BIG problem! The car is not old enough to be exempt. The second red flag is the comment about the exhaust manifold being wrapped in tape to prevent cracking - and that this is common to all Ferraris! This is a new one for me. How can "tape" prevent a manifold from cracking? Can anyone with more knowledge on this topic explain how that works or is it just BS? With that being said, it is an '89, which was the best of the series. Price is a lot less than what typical '89's go for, but who knows what it may cost to bring this one up to snuff. The engine bay and other interior areas don't look clean to me. Might just be worth finding a better example with fewer known issues than this car, but that's just me.
It's BS. Header wrap will keep some heat out of the engine bay, and a lot more inside the header (good), but if it's going to crack, wrap will not prevent it. It's possible the owner was just told this by someone, though, rather than any machiavellian intent.
