John: Save your money and purchase a Stebro Euro Resonator (a/k/a test pipe). Cost is about $300 USA and it will eliminate your cat, add a few hp, provide better throttle response, and the car will sound much better (louder and deeper). www.stebro.com Ken
If I recall, Ramus makes exhaust for our cars, but I am not sure of the price. If it is like other ramus exhaust setups, it probably will be much cheaper. Here is their site: http://www.remus-usa.com/ Spec: http://www.remus-usa.com/328gts.htm As for sound etc, I do not know, I opted for tubi. Many BMW owners I know like this setup on account of value.
Thanks, I've already installed a test pipe, but the stock exhaust rings like a VW beetle use to. I've been told to pack the perforated lining in the exhaust tips with steel wool, but looked at it once and decided that was impossible. Then someone suggested I us a body filler to do it. Just can't see that so I figured I'd look around for a used setup of something inexpensive. thanks, I'm checking the one site out right now. John
. http://www.remus-usa.com/ Am I crazy or is there something I don't know about this site. Just searched for an exhaust for a 328 GTS and up comes a picture of my car???? I took that picture on a drive with Bruce Wellington one afternoon, last year. That's his rear at the left of the picture. How does that work?? J
It means they're using your picture without permission. Get them to remove it or send you a free exhaust...
John I have to admit, the concidence of them using your image and you looking for an exhaust is really really interesting!
John I agree with Tillman on this one, you should give them a angery email threating some legal action or something. You may be able to get a discount or something.
I have dealt with this problem. The simple fix is to purchase some stainless steel sheet metal. Use tins snips to cut a 3" x 7" (approx.) and roll it tightly around a broom handle. Then carefully insert it into the tip, and let it "spring" out tightly in the tip. It will stay in, and not come out....trust me. I only had to do this to one tip, but took some trial and error to figure out which one was the offender. Fixed permanently. It works! One dealer in Northern CA was making and selling these for $30 or so....make your own, much cheaper. Just understand that it is important to use ss steel. I tried aluminum and galvanized sheet steel and they were not sufficiently "springy" and when heated, contracted and came out.
Previous owner of my 308 told me that there was a whisling noise that comes from the muffler above a certain rpm. He found form either the Ferrarilist or this Chat that inserting a stainless sleeve inserted in the exhaust tip to cover the perferations eliminates the whistling. I don't know if he purchased this from a vendor or just make one to suit. Maybe that will help.
I am sorry, I do not understand these last few posts, as I have never heard of this practice. What and why are you doing this for? Should I do it for my car as well?
This is done to correct a "whistle" noise that the STOCK exhaust on 308/328/mondials can have from the exhaust tips. It is caused by the air passing through the perforated metal inside the exhaust tips. Covering the perforations on the offending tip, will eliminate the whistle noise.
To me it was a ringing sound, but can be described as a whistle. I was told in a previous post, quite a while ago, that the material pack between the perfs and the tip somehow disappear leaving a space, thus the whistle. Filling the space with steel wool or body filler would stop it (according to that earlier post). Anyway, I'm looking at a different exhaust all together. J
I have a Tubi exhaust on my 328 gts. It sets off car alarms with the low rumble if I drive through a parking garage at the right rpm, cool. But, the wife thinks its a little loud!
I'd bet you put in a straight test pipe, not the Stebro Euro Resonator. By the way, Stebro gives FCA (Ferrari Club of America) members 10% off their already nicely priced exhaust systems...
