If this has been reported, my apologies. Just got most recent copy of Sportscar Market. Page 72 shows an RM auction result in Fort Worth Texas. ' 88 328 GTS vin 78078, red/black, 26k miles, 3+ condition sold for USD 88K. I was surprised/pleased given the milage and condition.

Current Cavallino also shows a rise in GTB prices—$30-$80K now...

26k miles for a 25 year old Ferrari, really is not that much mileage....the overall condition would be more important to me.

That's pretty incredible really, especially considering how many nice 360s you can find in the $70-80k range now.

A 360 isn't a 328. It's at least twice as common, and I would be cautious about buying an old used 360, especially with the F1 box and some of the parts prices. It's just a much more complicated car.

A red, late production 328 GTS with 26K miles is probably the high end of the desirability scale for most people, although at $88K sounds well sold.

The difficult part is finding one that is nicely preserved and maintained, without being modified. The interiors, especially, don't hold up all that well. But I think $60K-$70K would still buy a very nice car with over 20K miles.

Sorry for the repetition, but as said last week in an exchange of posts with Andyww in the U.K, this is not incredible for us in Europe: the brackets of prices are merging today.
Let's say "a good to very good" 328 will be advised between 44 and 50 k euros (a "very, very good to exceptionnal" could be advised at 55)
355 are usually advised at 48 to 53 k euros (but a good one sold for 40 k euro last week)
Some 360 are now advised from 49 k, even a bit less sometimes; agreed, not the best one, but the three cars prices (328, 355, 360) are indeed merging; another year and the brackets will probably be exactly the same for the three cars.

Don't forget, as Jon said, that:
    - 16.365 360 have been built
    - 11.273 F355
against 7412 328 (1344 GTB plus 6068 GTS) (to which we should add the 1136 "Turbos" mainly in Italy)

Thanks for the numbers on the 360. I may have been counting the Modena + Spider + CS + Challenge, but thought it was closer to 18,000.

Well Jon, I'm certainly not a Modena specialist, but:
the "usual" figures you see are 8.800 coupés + 7.565 spiders, which is indeed 16.365.
To which you would have to add "at least" 1274 "Challenge Stradale",
    and "about 200" "Challenge",
That is a grand total close to 17.850.

Pity we 328 lovers don't have our own 328 "Challenge Stradale"...

Not only is the 328 much rarer than the 360, how many are available in the market place? The 360 to 328 ratio might be as high as 10 to 1.

Still, $88K for a 3+ condition car seems insane. That's higher end 550 Maranello territory.

I'd stay away from the 360/355/348 due to their mechanical fragility and maintenance expense, but I'd have a hard time choosing a 328 over a low mileage mint condition Maranello in that price range.

Don't mean to offend the 360 owners but 328 styling is more iconic and more beautiful than 360. I wouldn't be surprised if the 328 price surpasses the 360 someday.

I saw the Fort Worth car and it was outstanding. I think the price had as much to do with the collection it was purchased from as it did the car itself. Still top dollar.

Yep, that's exactly what we have in France, even a bit higher: usually Twelve 360 to One 328; just had a look this morning at the main advertising sites.
And the nine 328s advertised this morning are the same cars for months, even for years. And I know of at least half a dozen guys that have been looking for months for a 328 that satisfy their criterias: no luck so far. I have a feeling that the best/nicest 328 are now sold outside the traditional advertising circuits.

Over here in France the lower end of the Maranello prices is indeed the same as the average for 328.
The bracket for french 328s this morning goes from 40.000 (a driver) to about 55.000 euros (a very, very good to exceptional car = there is a '89 GTB in the adds this morning with 15.000 miles for 57.000 euros)
    In that bracket, also this morning, you can find nine 550 (41990 € / 48200 / 48900 / 49900 / 51950 / 51990 / 52000 / 55000 / 56900 ); the average price is about 53.000, even if you got some cars near to 70.000.

The "big twelves" are hit hard by depreciation, it is even far worst for the 456 which is now well under the 328 bracket. I guess it is the utilisation costs and maintenance expenses that drive their prices down.
I must say I like the 550 too...
