My '86 GTS (60057) appears to be number 3.
Strange, could not find a number on the frame, but there is a 2 on the inside edge of the front bonnet. 328 GTB 61015
I will do some cross checking with the US 328 GTB Registry to see if the chassis numbers correlate to the build sequence. -F
Surely digits are way too low to represent the equivalent of the 308 assembly number. I'd speculate its a shift number or assembly line number. Or identifies source material (steel) origin. Something like that.
I still am pretty sure that the consecutive ass. # startedon the 348 or the Mondial t. Models before that had an ass. number range of their own.
Yes it was probably a number to identify any car on the production line at any one time. So the numbers could have been reset to zero weekly or monthly.
Bump... Assembly numbers on my cars are: 80515, 328 GTS, build date Feb 24, 1989: 570 (could be either 570, 573, 579 but despite one side of the number being not well "printed", it looks most probably to be "570") 81085, 328 GTB, build date April 5th, 1989: 08 (and not "68" as I wrote earlier in this thread; again, the zero is a bit less well "printed") Rgds
Apparently the first 328 GTS. It also featured in a German car magazine (Auto Motor & Sport) in october 1985. In that article they say it was a pre-production model. Does anybody know the VIN of this car? (never mind the rediculous price tag) Ferrari 328 GTS first example als Sportwagen/Coupé in Modena
Hello Erwin, I'm rather cautious about this add... The picture is not a picture of the actual car as it is today, but a picture taken from the factory brochure back in the days when the 328 was new; there is no VIN, no chassis number, nothing to substantiate the claim; if you add the high asking price, that could well be a fake or a scam, for that matter! What I have as for the first eleven 328s is the following: - 49543 - Cabriolet (factory made, not conversion), Giallo / Nero; development prototype, extant today in Italy (has US-market body parts, such as "long lip" front bumper) - 56211 - GTB, Rosso Corsa / Beige; development car, extant today in Paris, France (has US-market body parts, such as "long lip" front bumper, but Euro engine, non-cat) - 58687 - GTS, no info about colors, etc - 58735 - GTB, Rosso Corsa / Beige, production GTB #1 - 59105 - GTS, no info about colors, etc - 59301 - GTS, no info about colors, etc. Probably production GTS #1 - 59311 - GTS, Rosso Corsa / Beige - 59313 - GTS, Rosso Corsa / Nero - 59317 - GTS, (US Market first car) - 59343 - GTS, Rosso Corsa / Nero - 59347 - GTS, no info about colors, etc. 49543 has an US-market body but a non-catalysed engine; 56211 has an US-market body and a non-catalysed engine today, but may have had originally a catalysed engine when it was a factory development car; the car was kept at the factory for three years before brought to road-registration standard and sold. 59317 is a US-market model. All other cars above are "Euro" versions (non-cat engine) Once again, I do not claim to have all the chassis numbers (I'm not that foolish) so there could be other cars that I do not know of. But, from the list above, and if the claims of the "seller" are correct, the GTS could be 58687, 59105 or 59301. And should anyone know better, please do chime in. Rgds
Car salesmen with "out of thin air" claims have created so many wives tales stories like this we need to have numbers and or documentation or they are just stories. A VIN would be great if anyone can get one.
My car.... RHD GTS 60867 stamped '6' or '9' (not sure which way up) Car is alive and well in Winchester UK
Steven, said PM was my personal E-Mail adress, so yes, that needs to be kept secret. As for that very strange plate, if we manage to know more about it, and about the châssis number for the car, we will let you know; for the time being, we are in the dark. Rgds
My numbers end ,,82068 GTS,..The 89 s are the very best run of the cars since their inception in 1976...
I don't know if the number of 328 sold in Canada could be know but the number of 328 produced and allocated should be know because Canadian 328 have specific parts as the front bumper. But until today I never heard or read anything about this number. By the way do we know the number of 328 sold and produced for US market ? To my knowledge 135 GTB "US type" were produced but all were exported to North America ? How many were sold new in USA or via an USA dealer ?
