My 328 has one cosmetic area that is not up to my standards.....the front hood has a slight bend/reverse big ding in it front people trying to close it without pushing the button on the strut.

I know this is a common problem. Has anyone had this fixed? I was wondering if a ding doctor could do it, or it is needs bodywork.

A good bodyshop can fix that with little effort. Locally I can suggest Jano (348SPY), he's done work on quite a few of the local Fcar guys

My 13 year old was kind enough to try to close the bonnet without releasing the catch. Result: Bent hood. (And one angry dad!!) After about a week I basically bent it back into shape. The hood is really soft and bends easily. Look carefully at how it is distorted, both closed and open before you start wailing away with a sledge!! (I used bare hands, they were more than enough force.) Not sure this is a recommended course of action, but mine looks the same as it did before.

I finally let my kid sleep in his bed, (Intsead of outside in the doghouse....) last week.

    Cheers,
    dce

Get it fixed, then go buy the later 88.5 on up 328 hood strut...it is the gas piston one.....no more risk of bending again. I did this immediately after buying my 328. No more worries.

After I got mine fixed, I disconnected the strut from the hood and taped it to the inner wall inside the trunk (the other side still attached). I use a hood prop instead and when I show the car I simply reattach it and it is still correct.

Thanks guys! I did bend it back myself and it is pretty close to perfect. Now I can sleep better.
