I need to replace the "sleeve" that joins the lower radiator pipe to the pipe running back to the back of the car on my '87 328. My plan was to disconnect the pipe and then move the radiator t to separate the pipes. I can't seem to get the radiator to move after removing the upper mounts and removing the lower brace that goes up against the radiator.

The top radiator hose is off. Am I missing something? I can't budge the radiator yet.

I never move the radiator. Far too hard. Take clamps off hoses at each end of pipe and slide all the way onto the pipe and the pipe should come out. If hoses will not slide slit them with razor or hose slitter or box cutter and remove them. If it is the pipe to radiator top only hose under car needs to be removed. Top curved hose can just be popped off the radiator. Replace the hose on both of those pipes under the car.. The curved hose at the top radiator connection is a very good hose and I almost never replace those.

When reassembling I coat interior of the hoses with silicon grease so they can easily slide on pipes for easy assembly and locating hoses.

Thanks. I was getting to the point where I was just going to cut the old hose off, but it looked like the radiator would be able to move. I will proceed that way.

And be aware, those pipes are not bent in one plane. 100% of the cars I have dealt with had the pipes oriented incorrectly which make it look like the rubber is under load, because it is.

Ok, I've only dealt with my car so it is a small sample size. :)

Thanks. I managed to get it on with lots of soapy water. After a struggle, it just popped in place.

I know it's a little late now, but I don't think I'd use soap. You don't want any foaming in the cooling system. Probably coolants have anti-foaming additives and you'll be fine, but I know I'd be rinsing the system out to minimize any residual soap.
