Hi All, While the 328 is put up for the winter, I'm going to install a new audio system in it.. Taking off the instrument cluster to remove the old radio, I found out that it really wasn't mounted to anything, it just had wedges/pieces of styrofoam holding it in place. There's no way I'm going to mount the new system that way, but the problem is that there's no place to secure the back of the unit to. I suppose I can fiberglass a metal strap to the sides of the pod, and mount it that way, but I'm curious what everyone else has done...?
    Thanks; John

On my old 328 it was screwed to the back of the opening with a small metal strap.

Same on my QV. Plus the old radio's front knob nuts held it to the dash. A new "box" mount went in fairly easily.

I made up a small L shaped braket to secure the back of mine as well. makes it a right pain in the neck to get it back out though, its a very tight space.

I just did mine and this is what i did very solid.I just wrapt the steel strap for insulation only in case a wire gets to close it should not happen but i like to make sure.

+1 for metal strap or bracket.. my QV was done that way at the dealer, it does the job just fine. No need to overthink it, as you've seen even styrofoam works. ;)

Mine never had a radio in it from new till I bought the car.
There was a small metal strap/bracket at the back of the opening for the rear of the radio to be mounted to. However they don't line up with one another so I had to mod mine to make it fit. Severe cramp and bad back followed:-(
    Regards Roy
