I've got an annoyingly sticky rear brake caliper and having had the thing off and cleaned everything up it still sticks. I'm after a recon one ideally but is it particular to Ferrari?

After scanning the brake books the pads look like a Vauxhall Astra etc - or maybe as its only a '1' pot could it be off a cheaper Fiat perhaps? Anything to save Ferrari prices!!

    Geoff,

Is it the piston that's sticking or the caliper guide pins/bushes?

The piston I think - everything else is free. The rubber has also partially come out so I'd rather get a recon one before I sell the car.....

I just pulled the pistons on both my front calipers last weekend because the rubber dust boots were hanging half out of their grooves - I couldn't see any way to get them back in without taking the pistons out.

For what its worth there was an immense amount of grey "gunk" in the caliper behind the piston that I cleaned out - 16/17 years worth I expect. The pistons were a bit of grief to get out but it was manageable. You might want to have some replacement seals on hand when you do it - I didn't (cos it was Sunday!) but I seem to have got away with it. The seals looked in very good shape.

You might also find that the problem is actually the flexible line to the caliper. If that has been squashed/compressed then they have a habit of staying closed up by all accounts & so you may not be getting the full pressure down the line.

I would be inclined to inspect the line & then pull the piston out the caliper & clean all that up before you go down the road of replacing the whole thing.

Otherwise try contacting Mike/Phil at QV (01344 622033) - they may well have a recon caliper on the shelf
